Jay Jackson's "Female Chauvinists" (1976) arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of independent distributors Pop Cinema. The supplemental features on the disc include vintage trailers as well as vintage erotic footage featuring adult star Uschi Digard. The release also arrives with a six-page illustrated booklet featuring Robin Bougie's essay "The Exploitation of Liberation: Delving Into Female Chauvinists and Hot Connection". In English, not subtitled. Region-Free.

Jay Jackson's Female Chauvinists is grouped with James Young's Hot Connections in this double-feature release produced by Pop Cinema, which is the second entry in the boutique label's newly-launched 'Racy Reels From the Something Weird Vault' series.

Female Chauvinists is quirkier and a lot raunchier than Hot Connections, but the two films share the same vintage sense of humor. It is part satire, part erotic parody, and like Hot Connections it was produced to appeal primarily to the folks that would frequent the small independent and drive-in theaters.

The voluptuous Roxane Brewer plays the free-spirited model Boopsie who is convinced by an ambitious photographer to ‘penetrate’ a secluded training camp for radical feminists and expose them as the hypocrites that they are. Before she goes to work Boopsie decides to boost her chance of success by bringing her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Vince (Rick Dillon), to quickly seduce a few of the feminist warriors and speed up the collapse of their group. To get him in Boopsie then convinces the cranky ruler of the camp that Vince is deaf and dumb, which instantly makes it clear to everyone that he could be the perfect sex toy.

Boopsie’s plan works as intended until Vince becomes a lot more enthusiastic about his new job than he should be and many of the girls begin to appreciate his ‘services’ a lot more than they had anticipated. Eventually, the truth about Vince’s act is revealed, but the feminists are also forced to drop their masks.

Female Chauvinists unites plenty of actresses that during the ‘70s appeared in a wide range of popular erotic and adult films. Candy Samples and Uschi Digard, for instance, are two of the more experienced recruits in the camp that become familiar with the deaf sex toy. Deborah McGuire, who had a small role in Russ Meyer’s Supervixens, plays another curious recruit. Linda York and Hellen O’Connell are also part of the feminist team, though they don’t get the same amount of time in front of the camera as some of the more enthusiastic girls.

The plot obviously is anything but original and it is basically a needed ruse which validates the activities that occur in the camp. In other words, there is a lot of bouncing flesh on display, some silly jokes, and then the ‘crucial’ lovemaking sequences.

Two different versions of the film were apparently screened in theaters across the country: a slightly softer rated X version, and a slightly longer rated X version with additional hardcore inserts. The version that is included on this release is the softer version that omits some of the additional full-frontal penetration shots. However, sensitive viewers that plan to see the film should keep in mind that there is still quite a bit of explicit content in the shorter version.

*The shorter version of the film that is included on the Blu-ray also has some newly added music tracks that are not present on the old DVD-R release that Something Weird Video produced some years ago.

Presented in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Jay Jackson's Female Chauvinists arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Pop Cinema.

The technical presentation is very similar to that of Hot Connections, Cries of Ecstasy, Blows of Death and Invasion of the Love Drones. What this means is that the film has been transferred in high-definition without any additional extensive restoration work. Naturally, there are various small larger flecks, scratches, and even some vertical lines that pop up throughout the entire film. Some small traces of fading can be spotted as well, though the overall color balance is quite decent. There are no traces of problematic digital tinkering, but if the film was placed on a double-layer disc and the encoding was optimized, the end result would have been far more pleasing. Image stability is good. All in all, the best to describe the presentation is probably to say that the film has a decent vintage appearance with some nice organic qualities. (Note: This is a Region-Free Blu-ray release. Therefore, you will be able to play it on your player regardless of your geographical location).

There is only standard audio track on this Blu-ray release: English Dolby Digital 2.0. Optional English SDH subtitles are not provided for the main feature.

The dialog is stable and easy to follow. However, there are a couple of different sequences where some quite obvious unevenness is present around music track transitions. Mu guess is that it is caused by the editing work that was done to introduce the new tracks. Overall dynamic intensity is decent, but balance and fluidity definitely can be better.

Female Chauvinists Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

The one thing that is clearly missing from Female Chauvinists is some of the attitude that Russ Meyer's work is known for. Had Jay Jackson secured a more talented writer to deliver a proper script, his film really could have been something rather special, like a twisted Americanized Decameron on a mission to offend anyone that does not have a flexible sense of humor. It is still a rather funny film that is appropriate to see late at night, though, maybe after a drink or two. Female Chauvinists is included in this release with James Young's Hot Connections, which was produced by Pop Cinema. RECOMMENDED.
