Fast & Furious 8-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Universal has released an eight film, 17-disc 'Fast & Furious' UHD collection in sturdy DigiBook/Slipbox packaging. The eight films have all been previously released on both Blu-ray and UHD at one point or another. By-and-large the collection is excellent; the only shortcomings appear on the poorly received Tokyo Drift UHD video transfer and the UHD discs for films six and seven, both featuring technically neutered, but not inadequate, audio presentations. A plethora of supplements are included on the bundled Blu-ray discs (with audio commentary tracks carrying over to UHD as applicable) and a bonus DVD disc is also included that contains some new material not previously released in the similar eight film Blu-ray collection.

Fast & Furious 8-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

Universal ships the Fast & Furious 8-Movie Collection in a sturdy slip box with glossy accents and embossed lettering on the outer box. The image features a partial look at Dom's iconic Charger front-and-center with the box set title appearing above, center. A long stretch of road in an otherwise barren location appears faintly behind. The rear side features the "FF" logo within a fairly crude looking wheel/tire construct. The top and spine panels also contain the set's title, also embossed. The DigiBook looks largely identical in external appearance save for the embossed lettering, which is flat on the book. Each film earns two sturdy pages, with the UHD and Blu-ray discs sliding into round sleeves. Each left-hand page includes the film's number in the series top left and a few still images on the bottom. The right-hand side features a plot blurb at the top and special features listings on the bottom. The two pages for the bonus disc add more photos in lieu of other content and in place of the location of the would-be second disc.

This set includes Blu-ray discs for each film, all identical to those released through the years. The set also includes a bonus DVD which appears to have been released in a couple of other sets (here and here) and reviewed once before. However, there appears to be new material on this disc. All that's missing from the previously released bonus DVD is a supplement called Sneak Peeks which included previews scenes from and a trailer for Furious 7.

Fast & Furious 8-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

This is certainly a comprehensive collection. It's essentially every core Fast and Furious release on Blu-ray and UHD, plus a DVD bonus disc, all included in a handsome physical package. The only real downsides as far as the UHDs are concerned is the transfer for Tokyo Drift and the audio tracks on the sixth and seventh film discs, but all else being equal this is a terrific set and the best point of entry for the films on either format. Highly recommended.
