Fast & Furious 10-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 16, 2023

In celebration of the tenth film in the 'Fast and Furious' franchise, Universal has released a ten-film UHD boxed set that includes the entirety of the franchise (so far). Externally, the set is nothing special. Packaging is straightforward and only UHD disc and digital copies are included. No Blu-ray discs are bundled, but there is a separate release for those still collecting the films on Blu-ray. These discs are not simply ports of the existing UHD discs that Universal has released over the past few years but instead it offer returning and new extras on the UHD discs. Previously, extras were included on the Blu-ray discs only, minus commentary tracks. Note that a few extras are missing, but there have also been a number of extras added that have so far been exclusive to various F&F boxed sets. See below for links; lists of returning, missing, and new extras; and for a few thoughts on the packaging. Video and audio appear to be unchanged for the ten films.

Fast & Furious 10-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  5.0 of 5

As noted above, this is a 4K and digital set only; the Blu-ray set is sold separately. The set contains all ten films in two standard sized black UHD Amaray cases, and each film sits on its own hub on either a leaf or the rear of the case (the front panel is not used). The cases feature, on the front, two different views of the front of Dom's Charger, one of which (for films 6-10) is the same artwork seen on the outside of the slip box. The exterior slip box is very sturdy with metallic accents. The title "Fast & Furious 10-Movie Collection" appears at the top in white and is embossed. It is also embossed on the spine, which is otherwise black with the UltraHD logo at the top and a Universal logo at the bottom. The title again appears on the top of the box, again white-on-black and embossed. The rear of the box includes the "FF" lettering in a very dark, metallic blue against a black background. These will pick up handling fingerprints. It looks pretty cool. That's all there is to it. It's nice, but it's very streamlined. if anything, it saves substantial shelf space (probably 75-80%) for those collecting the films. Hopefully Universal will release something more substantial for a future full series collection, when, or maybe better said should, the series ever come to an official end.

It is important to note that these are not the same discs that Universal originally released. They have been modified to house the supplements that were, on previous issues, included only on the Blu-ray discs. However, there are some extras that do not carry over. There are also some new extras, most of which have been released before as part of various F&F collections (for example this one and this one) but here included with individual movies for the first time. Previously, they were available on bundled DVD discs. Note that it appears that some missing extras have been moved around, but for the sake of streamlining below is a list of what is explicitly missing and explicitly added for each film, if applicable. All will be listed beside the specific films below. I hope this is a full and exhaustive list. I have done my best to compare and collate but it's a significant undertaking to cross reference so much material. If there is anything missing or mistaken, kindly PM me and I will fix whatever may be incorrect. Links point to previous releases where reviews of returning content can be found.

  • The Fast and the Furious: Missing extras include "The Fast and the Furious Video Mash-Up," "Paul Walker Public Service Announcement," "Turbo-Charged Prelude to 2 Fast 2 Furious," "Sneak Peek at 2 Fast 2 Furious," "Theatrical Trailer," and various "U-Control" Blu-ray extras.
  • 2 Fast 2 Furious
  • The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift: Missing extras include "Custom Made Drifter" and various "U-Control" Blu-ray extras.
  • Fast & Furious: Missing extras include "Virtual Car Garage," "Fast & Furious Video Mash-Up," "Trailers," and various "U-Control" Blu-ray extras. New extras include "Mapping Fast & Furious (1080p, 7:28), International TV Special (1080p, 22:45), and Back Under the Hood (1080p, 6:15).
  • Fast Five: Missing extras include "Second Screen."
  • Fast & Furious 6: Missing extras include "Fast & Furious 7 First Look." New extras include "Justin Lin - Director's Vault" (1080p) which includes four featurettes: "The Ear That Almost Took Down the Movie" (2:39), "Airplane Takedown" (5:23), "Shaw's Intro" (6:37), and "Tank Rampage" (3:58); and "Fast Cars!" (1080p) which includes three featurettes: "Ride or Die: The Vehicles of Fast 6" (18:17), "The Tank: Metal Monster," (6:16), and "The Flip Car: Weapon on Wheels" (6:13).
  • Furious 7: New Extras include "Retrospective" (1080p) which includes six featurettes: "Launch" (2:46), "Fights" (1:29), "Stunts" (2:05), "Fast Cars" (1:52), "Locations" (1:35), and "Family" (2:35); "Cast Favorites" which includes five featurettes: "Stunts - Jordana" (1:30), "Family - Tyrese" (1:07), "Locations - Vin" (1:19), "Fights - Vin, Michelle, Chris" (1:47), and "Cars" (1:13); "A Home in Ruins" (1080p, 10:21), "From Pre-Viz to Final" (1080p, 8:30), "Shooting in Abu Dhabi" (7:31), and "Jeff Imada: Up Close and Personal" (1080p, 5:42). Note that none of the extras on this disc displayed when played back via my Panasonic DP- UB9000 with the latest firmware update installed. Audio was heard and I was able to get info for the runtimes and resolutions, but there was no video playback, just a black screen. Playback was fine on an XBox Series X.
  • The Fate of the Furious: New extras include "Heating Up Iceland" (1080p, 6:26), "Wrecking Ball" (5:41), "How to Stop a Toretto" (1080p, 5:36), "Touring the Toy Shop" (7:47), and "Behind-the-Scenes Family" (1080p, 4:11).
  • F9: The Fast Saga
  • Fast X

Fast & Furious 10-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

While the slip box is very nice, this is otherwise a very vanilla set with nothing new to offer repeat buyers, unless they desperately want the "new" extras which were before only included on a dedicated DVD disc. It's a good option for first-time buyers, but there's nothing here to entice audience to double dip. The big draw here is that the price is very good; at about $90 at time of writing that's $9 per film on UHD with wonderful picture and sound and days' worth of bonus features. Not bad!
