Fast X 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

'Fast X' returns to 4K UHD and Blu-ray disc courtesy of Universal in this Walmart exclusive "Glow in the Dark Art" steelbook release. The disc content is identical to the standard UHD release from August of 2023. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of this new steelbook. A Digital Code is included.

Fast X 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

The Universal "Glow in the Dark Art" Fast X 4K Walmart-exclusive steelbook features the film's monochrome logo centered in a blue-grey field. The blue-grey color gradually fades to a darker grey as it approaches the edges. The reverse side continues the same background color scheme but features a monochrome image of Dom's Dodge Charger. It is very simple to detect both visually, and by touch, which elements on the front and back covers will glow. I opened the case and placed it face-down for 30 minutes in indirect sunlight before taking the pictures in a dark room to capture the glow-in-the-dark images. Using the film's logo as the cover image makes sense, but when it glows in the dark it is a little bland. The image of the car on the reverse is much more striking and interesting and displays a surprising amount of detail for a format that is usually not particularly precise. Eagle-eyed readers will note a slight vertical line in the middle of the car's image running from the bumper, through the headlight, and to the hood where the luminous material was rubbed off to some degree during the manufacturing or shrinkwrapping process. Purchasers may wish to take additional care when handling or storing the steelbook to avoid wear to the glowing areas. The spine, which is a dark blue-grey fading to near black, has the film's title printed in large slanted block letters. The interior print duplicates the art found on the 4K disc of a race about to begin. Copies stocked in-store are housed in the typical anti-theft clamshell cases which pose an extra barrier to collectors attempting to find a copy free from any dents, scratches, scuffs, or other blemishes. For a discussion of the on-disc material, please follow the link above to the standard 4K UHD release.

Fast X 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

Not overly showy, the cover image for the Walmart exclusive Fast X 4K "Glow in the Dark Art" steelbook release certainly gets the job done, but it's the image of the Charger on the back that's the real star here. Those interested in the broader line of Walmart's "Glow in the Dark Art" steelbooks will certainly want to give this release strong consideration. Recommended.
