Eagles: Legacy Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman November 14, 2018

If you have a music fan in your household and are already starting to ruminate about potential holiday presents, there have been a trio of high profile releases over the past couple of weeks that all offer some kind of Blu-ray component, just in case your music fan is also a devotee of high definition video and/or audio. I've recently reviewed both The Beatles and The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Electric Ladyland, either (or both, if whoever you're buying for has been really good) of which would make a superb present. Into that mix add this new Eagles collection, though it should be noted that the Blu-ray component here is the previously released The Eagles: Farewell I Live From Melbourne, which I reviewed several years ago. That said, perhaps even if you've already added that excellent concert video to your Blu- ray collection, you may want to consider "double dipping" (in a manner of speaking), since this sumptuously packaged release contains all of the Eagles' studio output, some live tracks, and a DVD, not to mention some other nice looking non-disc swag like a hardback book.

Rhino is touting this release as including "all of the Eagles' music together for the first time," with seven studio albums, three live albums, singles and B sides (some of the most interesting material here, in my opinion), Hell Freezes Over on DVD and the aforementioned Melbourne concert on Blu-ray. As is often the case with Rhino releases, the packaging here is beautifully done, with three hardback "books", one of which is a true book stuffed full of pictures. The other two offer bound disc envelopes, the first collecting the studio albums together, and the second devoted to live and bonus material.

Eagles: Legacy Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  5.0 of 5

The sole supplement on the Blu-ray disc is described in our For my thoughts on the video presentation of the Blu-ray included in this release, please see our The Eagles: Farewell I Live From Melbourne Blu-ray review. The extras score above is for the entire package, which is really quite impressive.

Eagles: Legacy Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  5.0 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed the Blu-ray release of the Melbourne concert when I reviewed it several years ago, but this beautifully packaged new release from Rhino ups the ante pretty considerably by offering a smorgasbord of the Eagles' considerable recorded output, both studio and live, along with some rarer tracks. I have to say as I wended my way through the CDs in this set, I was kind of repeatedly staggered at the sheer power of the Eagles' output over the years. To pun just a little horribly, you can check (this) out anytime you want, but once you do, you may never want to leave. Highly recommended.
