Universal has released the classic 1982 film 'E.T.' to the UHD format with a special edition boxed set that includes the film on UHD and Blu-ray (the same discs found in the 2022 re-release) in addition to a booklet, a thermos, a lunch box, and a certificate of authenticity.

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

This special edition contains five items inside the outer box, which measures approximately 11.5" across, 7.25" high, and 4" deep. The front has two cellophane windows to show the thermos and lunch box, or "collectible tin tote" as the packaging calls it (more on those in a moment). The words "40th Anniversary Limited Edition Gift Set" appear in white lettering in an orange bar at the top, along with disc and digital listings. The left side features the film's 40th anniversary logo while the right features the classic image of Elliot and E.T. on the bicycle in front of the moon in silhouette. The top is blank and the bottom includes some tech specs and legalese. The rear side includes a film description, images of the included materials, a large picture of E.T., bonus feature listings, and more, including the same orange banner along the top.

Yellow is the accent color of choice for the included materials, perhaps curious given the large orange banners on the packaging. Nevertheless, the items look great accented in yellow. The thermos measures about 6.25" in height and 10.5" in circumference. It's certainly not huge, and most will probably enjoy it as room decor rather than as a practical thermos. It does include a cup and a screw-on lid. The thermos depicts E.T. wearing a blue plaid shirt and the words "Phone Home" appear above him in yellow. The lunch box measures approximately 6.75" high, 7.75" wide, and 4" deep for a generous inner compartment. The front and back are outlined in yellow, and the handle is also yellow. The front depicts E.T. bottom right with him and Elliot on the bike in front of the moon above. The film's title appears top left and a three-colored streak is trailing the bike down to the bottom left. Ther rear panel features the words "Be Good" in a very 70s-style type. E.T. appears in a larger circle beside "be" and above the "od" in "Good." He is pointing to his glowing heart. Inside the lunch box is the Blu-ray/UHD combo pack, a certificate of authenticity, and a handsome glossy color booklet that features essays, photos, concept art, and more. There's a lot of content in the book and fans will find it alone to be well worth the price of admission.

Anyone looking for a last-minute gift for E.T. fans need look no further. With this set on sale at Amazon at time of writing for right at $30, there's no better time, and no better option, to dive into the world of E.T. all over again or for the first time. The price is right, the movie is great, and the physical content is terrific. Very highly recommended!
