E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 11, 2017Universal has released the classic film 'E.T.' to the UHD format with 2160p/HDR-enhanced video and a new DTS:X soundtrack. And, yes, it's the 'proper' version of the film with guns as guns, not walkie-talkies. No new extras are included on the UHD disc, and the Blu-ray, a copy of the same disc released and widely acclaimed back in 2012, carries over all of the supplements. In addition to this Limited Edition, Universal has also released a standalone UHD/Blu-ray/Digital combo package.

For a full film review, please see the Blu-ray.com listing for the 2012 release here.

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Universal's 35th Anniversary Limited Edition UHD release of E.T. contains the film's standard two-disc UHD release in addition to extra physical content. A
UV/iTunes digital copy code is included with purchase.
The UHD copy of the film comes housed in a basic black UHD package with the same artwork as the standalone release linked above. It does ship in
an attractive and sturdy slip box that features a lenticular image of Elliot and E.T. riding the bike across the moon. The back features the "E.T. Phone
Home" text above an image of the flashlight-wielding searchers seen at the beginning of the film. A simple flap is lightly glued to the box, which is
easily removable and offers the usual cluster of information: plot synopsis, special features listings, tech specs, etc.
Inside the box, beyond the UHD case, are two goodies. First is a full-color booklet that includes an introduction by Drew Barrymore, an essay on
Director Steven Spielberg, cast and crew profiles, text centered on the writing process, a look at conceptual designs, the process
of bringing the E.T. character to life, poster and promotional images, text on the film's legacy, and more. Also included is the Remastered Original
Motion Picture Soundtrack on Compact Disc. It's packaged in a basic cardboard CD slip with the "touching fingers" image on the front and a track
listing on the back. The following tracks are included:
- Three Million Light Years from Home
- Abandoned and Pursued
- E.T. and Me
- E.T.'s Halloween
- Flying
- E.T. Phone Home
- Over the Moon
- Adventure on Earth
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Universal's boxed set isn't elaborate, but it comes housed in attractive, sturdy packaging and features a couple of solid goodies in its booklet and CD soundtrack. The UHD technical presentation is stellar. No new extras are included, but the supplemental roster on the Blu-ray is fine. This UHD release of E.T. earns my highest recommendation.
