The curmudgeonly recluse Grinch, who hates Christmas, becomes annoyed with the out-of-control Christmas festivities in Whoville, the town lying below his cave dwelling on Mt. Crumpit. But after the Grinch conspires to deprive the Whos of their favorite holiday by sneaking into town on Christmas Eve to steal everything associated with the holiday, he learns that the spirit of Christmas goes much deeper than tinsel and toys.

Directed by Ron Howard, the live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss' classic holiday tale returns to 4K UHD disc in the new 'Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: 25th Anniversary Limited Edition SteelBook 4K' courtesy of Universal. The film stars Jim Carrey in the titular role, and he's joined by Christine Baranski ('Cybill'), Jeffrey Tambor ('Hellboy'), and a young Taylor Momsen (of the band The Pretty Reckless). This release features a new thirty-minute on-disc supplemental feature, and a Dolby Atmos audio track to accompany its Dolby Vision enhanced presentation. A Blu-ray disc, and a Digital Code redeemable via Movies Anywhere are also included. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of the new SteelBook.

The new Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: 25th Anniversary Limited Edition SteelBook 4K is quite the riot of color. The film's title in
its typical red and green font dominates the top half of the cover. It is placed neatly over the massive red sack stuffed with Christmas presents that is
loaded onto the Grinch's sleigh. Just below the title, the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, and the loyal Max (with an antler tied to his head) sit at the front of
the sleigh. All three are clearly enjoying the ride. Snow explodes beneath the sleigh's runners, and Whoville shrinks in the distance behind them. Jim
Carrey's name is at the very top of the cover in plain white block letters. The spine carries over the cover's color scheme, with blue and pink winter
sky giving way to the white, snow-covered ground. The title, once again in its normal multi-color font resides in the middle, while Universal's logo sits
at the bottom. On the reverse, we see a snowy Whoville underneath a blue, pink, and yellow sky. Universal's logo is in the bottom left corner, and the
words "Made in Denmark" and a product number are found in the lower right corner. Opening the SteelBook, the Digital Code is found under the tabs
on the left side. On the right side, the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray disc containing the feature film are stagger-stacked, each on its own hub, with the
4K UHD disc on top. Removing the discs and the code reveals a two-panel image of the Grinch pressing the fully loaded sleigh over his head as he
stands on a snowy mountain top. The same wintery blue, pink, and yellow sky is featured here as well. The entire SteelBook has been given a glossy
finish. While it makes the colors pop rather handsomely, it may show fingerprints associated with normal handling. There are no embossed or
debossed elements. On the whole, it's a vividly colored package that captures the film well in just a few images.
There is one new on-disc supplemental feature included which is only found on the 4K UHD disc, as discussed below.

The film has received a noticeable upgrade here. The visual presentation is still a bit uneven, but the film's numerous "good" moments are improved upon here due to richer and more vibrant colors and slightly higher levels of fine detail. Certain scenes still struggle, but the overall impact is lessened. The film's typical darkness is a bit of a limiter, but I believe it looks the best it ever has here. Star Jim Carrey uses all of his comedic gifts to bring the Grinch to life, imbuing him with the expected tireless physicality and, even through the makeup, and endless array facial expressions. His comedy being what it is, his best moments are always the scenes where he has other cast members to react to and generate reactions from. The Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio track, in conjunction with the new on-disc extra, and the vivid and high-energy SteelBook packaging are solid motivation for the film's fans and SteelBook collectors to upgrade to this newest release, and as such, the Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: 25th Anniversary Limited Edition SteelBook 4K comes recommended.
