Dirty Dancing 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman August 28, 2022

Lionsgate continues to baffle with its 4K UHD release "strategy", and you need look no further than Dirty Dancing for a prime example. You have to give it to Baby, she is not staying in that corner, if I may be permitted what actual comedians term a "callback" to an admittedly lame joke I opened my Dirty Dancing Blu-ray review with a few years ago when Lionsgate released some 30th Anniversary editions of this title. It might be argued, though, that she's getting a little sneaky about it, because the 4K UHD rollout of this film has been perplexing even by typical Lionsgate 4K UHD standards. While I'm officially assigned to review Lionsgate titles, I occasionally get "special requests" from my colleagues here at the site to cover this or that release, and I had frankly forgotten that Randy Miller III published his Dirty Dancing 4K Blu-ray review well over a year ago when Lionsgate did what amounted to a "stealth release" (in exclusive Best Buy Steelbook packaging, no less) of one of their more legendary titles. Well, now well over a year later, Lionsgate is "going wide" with what seems to be exactly the same release, albeit in more standard packaging.

There have been so many releases of this film at this point that Baby anyone interested has a veritable glut to choose from, but Randy's above linked review is a good place to start, and my own Dirty Dancing Blu- ray review of the 30th Anniversary 1080 release also contains some additional information. Both of our reviews link to Dustin Somner's original review of the film.

Dirty Dancing 4K Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.0 of 5

Dirty Dancing 4K Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  5.0 of 5

Dirty Dancing 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  5.0 of 5

Randy's review lists all of the supplements on both the 2160 and 1080 discs in this package.

Additionally, a digital copy is included, and packaging features a slipcover (which makes the release kind of look like a Steelbook, actually).

Dirty Dancing 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Hey, if Baby ever got elected President, she could stay in the Oval Office where there aren't any corners! Until that day, though, we can probably rest assured that Lionsgate will be re-releasing this film in some ostensibly "new" edition somewhere down the line. Until then, for those who didn't opt for the Best Buy Steelbook and want this film in 4K UHD, this release comes Recommended.
