Deadpool & Wolverine is an exhilarating action-adventure and a non-stop sequel to Deadpool and Deadpool 2. The third feature-film in the franchise, the sequel combines the storytelling universe of the Fox installments and the backdrop of the Marvel universe. Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Yes, both characters cannot die.

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is tossed from one studio deal to another as he navigates his shenanigans from 20^th Century Fox to Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As Deadpool finds himself in an unusual contract negotiation of sorts, Deadpool meets the Time Variance Authority and discusses his new role. Can Deadpool convince Disney to pony up?

As Deadpool enters a new chapter of the MCU, the snarky superhero brings with him an alternate-universe variant version of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to accompany him on a new world-saving mission. As Deadpool sees it: a perfect opportunity for some yellow Spandex. With plenty of time traveling shenanigans and universe hopping, Deadpool and Wolverine set forth to save the entire universe from extinction. Can Deadpool stop the world from becoming as extinct as 20^th Century Fox after the Disney corporate takeover?  

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are exceptional in the feature-film and provide so much great on-screen chemistry. The dynamic duo are superb in their respective roles and manage to play well off of one another. Reynolds has never been better and delivers one of his best performances. The role was perfect for Reynolds and he delves into the part with a dedication that is remarkable to behold.

Jackman is pitch-perfect as Wolverine and it is great to see a new side to his iconic X-Men character. After ending the storyline with Logan, Marvel picks things back up with a sort of alternate-continuation of the iconic character with yellow spandex. Both Reynolds and Jackman were born to play their roles and make an impression that is undeniable.

The supporting players include X-23 (Dafne Keen), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Blade (Wesley Snipes), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and Captain – er, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). The supporting cast does excellent work adding to the comic-book alternate-universe charms. The sort of “B-Movie” Fox comic-book characters assemblage of “Avengers” supporting characters is fascinating and makes Deadpool & Wolverine all the more entertaining.

The cameos and supporting roles in Deadpool & Wolverine are fantastic. X-23 is especially impressive – bringing back her role from Logan. The performance is excellent and Dafne Keen is wonderful in the film. Jennifer Garner continues to amaze as Elektra. Who doesn’t love Wesley Snipes as Blade?

Featuring a score composed by Rob Simonsen (Elio, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Deadpool & Wolverine has terrific music. The score is energetic and exhilarating throughout. The score builds on the comic-book universe and provides plenty of showstopping moments for both Wolverine and Deadpool.

Not only does the score add a lot to the comic-book storytelling but the soundtrack selections are first-rate. Throughout Deadpool & Wolverine is a fantastic soundtrack with numerous fun song selections like Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC, Only You by The Platters, Glamorous by Fergie, and Good Riddance by Green Day. (The soundtrack is even available on a spiffy colored vinyl, too.)

The cinematography by George Richmond (Argylle, Free Guy) is outstanding. The visuals are wonderful and provide so much beauty to the filmmaking. Richmond is an enormous talent and visually superb storyteller. The cinematography is as sleek and robust as any of the best comic-book blockbusters. Fantastic lensing.

Edited by Shane Reid (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Saturday Night) and Dean Zimmerman (Free Guy, Real Steel), Deadpool & Wolverine is well-paced and the comic book extravaganza is an edge-of-your- seat thrill ride. The editing is superb and flows well. The storytelling is all the better due to the superb editorial oversight. Reid and Zimmerman made the perfect edit of Deadpool & Wolverine to please the Marvel and Disney corporate overlords.

The production design by Ray Chan (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) is top-notch. Chan does a fantastic job creating an expansive production setting. A wonderful effort by the production designer, Deadpool & Wolverine is the sort of beautiful vista audiences don’t always find with comic book features. (But often do.)

The costume designs by Graham Churchyard (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Mayes C. Rubeo (Thor: Love and Thunder) are excellent and the dedication to colorful spandex makes the production all the more unrealistic. The efforts help add to the comic-book filmmaking illusion audiences love so much. A great smorgasbord effort by Churchyard.

Written by Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, Deadpool & Wolverine is terrific fun and the rare kind of comic-book adventure that is perfect from beginning to end. Deadpool & Wolverine is a sort of comic-book gem and the writing is superb throughout. Deadpool & Wolverine is full of laugh-out-loud moments and one will be smiling and laughing throughout the entire film.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy, Real Steel), Deadpool & Wolverine is an instant classic as far as comic book films go. Levy is a great collaborator with star Ryan Reynolds and brings out the best in the actor. Levy has a great vision for Deadpool & Wolverine and the production spares no expenses – Marvel is simply not playing around with its 200 million budget. The good news? Deadpool & Wolverine was capable of laughing it all the way to bank with its massive 1.3 billion in box- office revenue. How’s that for Disney’s corporate revenge against Fox? Deadpool & Wolverine slay.

Deadpool & Wolverine 4K + 3D Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality 

Released on Blu-ray by Disney and Marvel, Deadpool & Wolverine is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 widescreen. The 3D Blu-ray is presented with an incredibly robust and detailed presentation. The colors on the release "pop" with considerable visual wonder and finesse. The picture-quality is remarkably crisp and pleasing. There is so much to appreciate about the visuals and the cinematography looks breathtakingly clear on the release.

The 3D presentation is top-notch and a showstopper from beginning to end. The 3D depth is superb and offers rewarding visual clarity. The 3D pop outs are well-done and the superb depth to the image is far above expectations. The 3D is stunning and Deadpool & Wolverine is perfect to experience on the 3D format. The 3D Blu-ray is near flawless on my reference grade OLED65E6P 4K 3D display.

Deadpool & Wolverine 4K + 3D Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality 

The release is presented in Dolby Atmos surround sound. The lossless audio encoding is top-notch on the release. The Atmos audio is superbly reproduced and it manages to make an incredible impression. Dialogue is crisp and clear throughout the audio presentation.

The soundtrack is perfectly reproduced and the score is well mixed into the epic soundstage. The sound effects are dynamic, robust, and exhilarating. Atmos provides wonderful immersion and the surrounds are actively engaging.

The lossless audio is one of the strengths of the Blu-ray format. Streaming video services only provide lossy (non-lossless) audio encoding. For home theater enthusiasts and audiophiles, the lossless audio encoding is an essential part of the release. Lossless audio provides theater quality sound and the high-bitrate encoding and 24-bit high-resolution bit depth allow for a deeper noise floor and a more enveloping presentation.

Deadpool & Wolverine 4K + 3D Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the best comic-book films ever made and that isn't even accounting for box-office sales. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are both perfect in their respective roles and bring the charisma. The filmmaking is top-notch with great action direction by director Shawn Levy (Free Guy).

The 3D Blu-ray provides a stunning presentation – with crisp 3D visuals and enormous depth. The 3D is immersive and absorbing. The 3D release also includes an impressive lossless audio presentation. The release also includes a nice supplemental package. For 3D enthusiasts, the 3D Blu- ray release should be considered a must-own. Highly recommended.
