Darkman II: The Return of Durant Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman January 4, 2019
Universal has released the direct-to-video film 'Darkman II: The Return of Durant' to Blu-ray, currently only available in a trilogy collection with 'Darkman' and 'Darkman III: Die Darkman Die.' The film was previously released by Shout! Factory. The Universal and Shout! discs share
the same video and audio (essentially) but this Universal release ditches any and all extras.

Darkman II: The Return of Durant Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Universal's Blu-ray release of Darkman II: The Return of Durant appears to share the same 1080p master used for the 2017 Shout! Factory
release, with one notable exception: the Shout! disc is framed at 1.85:1 while this Universal release is framed at 1.78:1. Several comparative
screenshots are included in this review which coincide with a few from the Shout! disc review page. For a full Blu-ray video review, please click here.
Darkman II: The Return of Durant Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

Universal's Blu-ray release of Darkman II appears to contain the same DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 lossless soundtrack used by the Shout!
Factory release. For a full Blu-ray audio review, please click here.
Darkman II: The Return of Durant Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Unlike the Shout! Factory release which contained an audio commentary track, a television edit of the film in standard definition, and several vintage
promos, Universal's release is bare-bones. No DVD or digital copies are included, either.
Darkman II: The Return of Durant Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Darkman II: The Return of Durant isn't at all bad for a DTV sequel. It doesn't miss much with the transition from Neeson to Vosloo and Larry
Drake is a mean and physically imposing here as he was in the last film. The story is flimsy but the film is nevertheless a decent enough entertainer
and a fair follow-up to the original. Universal's Blu-ray, currently only available in a Darkman trilogy collection, features the same video
(though it opens the aspect ratio from 1.85:1 to 1.78:1) and recycles the same two-channel lossless soundtrack. This Universal release also ditches the
Shout! disc's extras. Buy the Shout! disc instead if the Blu-ray budget allows.
