Coming Soon Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard October 21, 2025

Coming Soon is an entertaining Thai horror film. Executive produced by Paiboon Damrongchaitham (Shutter, Alone), Boosaba Daorueng (Shutter, Bad Genius), Jina Osothsilp (Bad Genius, The Medium), and Visute Poolvoralaks (Shutter, Phobia, Coming Soon has gained a cult following. Produced by Jira Maligool (The Tin Mine, Seven Something), Chenchonnee Soonthonsaratul (Bad Genius, Phobia), Yongyoot Thongkongtoon (Phobia, Phobia 2), and Chanajai Tonsaithong (Nang Nak, Handle Me With Care), Coming Soon stars Vorakarn Rojjanavatchra and Chantavit Dhanasevi.

The tale occurs at the cinema – alongside the projector, the camera, the movie posters, and the aisles. The old-school movie auditorium. The place of magic. The attendees find surprises with ghosts. What happens when a ghost appears as if out of nowhere? Or if the lead character is surprisingly a ghost themselves? As the tale unfolds, the characters find themselves surprised to see events reoccur as directly happened in the most recent film the characters had just seen at their local cinema.

The performances from the lead cast members are impressive. The performances help to raise the bar for the filmmakers. The cast has a lot of fun within the cinema setting and creating a sense of dread within the cinema. The performances are fun and add to the charms of the genre filmmaking.

Composed by Toy Terdsak Janpan (Ong Bak 2, Secret), the score for Coming Soon is entertaining and engaging. The music works well for the genre filmmaking. The score serves as a nice backdrop to the horror and thriller elements.

Featuring cinematography by Somboon Phopitakkul (Body Sob 19, Astrophile), Coming Soon looks impressive visually and makes a solid impression. The cinematography is one of the focal points. Everything looks impressive here and the results are well done. A strong cinematographic lens.

Edited by Thammarat Sumethsupachok (Laddaland, The Teacher’s Diary), Coming Soon is well paced. The editing is one of the strengths of the film. The scenes flow well together and the storytelling is better as a result.

Featuring production designs by Sopon Phulsawasd, the cinema setting is well showcased with the designs. The cinema aspect is one of the most peculiar and fun parts of the film. It is interesting to experience a genre Thai film set within the landscape of movie theaters.

The costume designs by Ekasith Meeprasertsakul (Love of Siam, Bangkok Dangerous) are well done and make a solid impression, too. The costumes add to the film and its aesthetic. A solid effort all around.

Written by Chanajai Tonsaithong, Sophon Sakdaphisit (Laddaland, Shutter), and Khom Kongkiat Khomsiri (Operation Undead, Muay Thai Fighter), Coming Soon is a solid script. The characters have fun moments and thrilling sequences. The script does well with the concept and on expanding it for the filmmakers. A solid story and decent characters.

Directed by Sophon Sakdaphisit (Laddaland, The Swimmers), Coming Soon is one of the best Thai horror films, and it has a cult following as a result. Coming Soon is compelling for its cinema setting. The film utilizes the setting well and the director has fun experimenting with the genre elements within a cinema.

Coming Soon Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.5 of 5

Released on Blu-ray by Umbrella Entertainment, Coming Soon is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio. The high-definition video looks quite pleasing on the release. Colors have considerable pop and depth. The filmmaking looks great on the release. The transfer is in decent shape overall and although it could look better with a newer 2K or 4K remaster it is still a pleasing presentation overall.

Coming Soon Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  3.5 of 5

The Thai audio sounds crisp and clear on the release. Dialogue is easy to understand. The score is well reproduced. The soundstaging is well handled on the release. A well done release.
