Gone before its time, 'Chucky: The Complete Series' arrives on Blu-ray in this Limited Edition SteelBook courtesy of Universal. The fan-favorite television series spawned from a film franchise that began with 1988's 'Child's Play' includes all of the murderous supernatural doll's small-screen adventures. Brad Dourif provides the voice for Chucky, and the series displays obvious self-awareness, a knowledge of horror films past and present, and an unerring formula of pairing as much gory violence as it possibly can with acid wit. The twenty-four episodes are spread over six discs, two discs for each season, which seem identical to the previous individual season discs. The extremely modest amount of legacy supplemental features is carried over as well, with nothing new or additional to add to the mix. A Digital Code is not included. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of the new SteelBook.

A completely harmless-looking redheaded doll wearing a striped shirt under a pair of overalls sits on the floor of a school hallway in front of a bank of
yellow lockers. Horror fans will immediately recognize him as Chucky. Above him, and just below the lockers' combination locks, is the series' title:
Don Mancini's Chucky. These words are neatly printed in the show's font. Below it, at an angle and apparently scrawled in blood, are the
words, "The Complete Series". The locker that sports most of these letters has a fair amount of blood leaking out of its lower vent. The yellow from
the lockers is carried over to the spine, which reads Chucky The Complete Series in a red font identical to the cover. Universal's logo is at the
bottom in white. The back cover shows three more of the ongoing bank of lockers, each of which has two pictures and at least one sticker on it. The
pictures are of key moments and characters from the season, while the stickers read "Good Guys", and "We're Friends 'Til The End", a nod to the
doll's more wholesome origin. Universal's logo sits in the bottom left corner, while a product number is in the lower right. Opening the SteelBook, we
find that the discs are stacked, three on the hub on the left side, and three on the hub on the right. It's efficient, but not ideal. Once all of the discs
are removed, the interior two-panel image shows the top shelf of a locker and the inside of the locker door. On the shelf are an assortment of
textbooks behind which a bloody knife is plainly visible. A photo of Chucky with his black-hearted sweetheart is taped to the back of the locker. On
the inside of the locker door, there are three more photos recalling locations and characters from the series, along with a sticker reading "Dead Soul".
This release does not feature any embossing or debossing. The SteelBook has a glossy finish that, due to its color scheme, doesn't readily show
fingerprints associated with normal handling, but given the finish, care should be taken. No, the bigger concern here has to be the stacked discs. Not
only is it inconvenient to have to remove the top two discs to access the one on the bottom, but there is also potential for damage to the discs. The
artistic design of the SteelBook is solid, but the physical design leaves a bit to be desired.
On-disc supplemental material remains woefully light, and nothing new was created or added for this release. Instead, this edition merely brings
forward the legacy features from the individual season sets that came before. Each season includes a small assortment of deleted scenes, but the
first
season has the additional short feature, "The Legacy of Chucky". For a more detailed accounting of these extras, please follow the links below.

When the series was cancelled in the fall of 2024, with high production costs cited as the driving factor in the decision, an online campaign was started to try to save the show. As of this date, it seems this was to no avail. While I would certainly have appreciated some more time with Chucky to see what he had planned next, the end of the third season resolved in such a way as to be a satisfying end to the series. A bit dark, a bit more ridiculous, and a bit unexpected, as endings go, but a reasonable end, nonetheless. The cast is universally solid, and Jennifer Tilly effectively adds a new layer of danger, humor, and madness. For fans of the Child's Play franchise fans in particular, and horror hounds in general, the Chucky: The Complete Series Limited Edition SteelBook comes highly recommended with fair warning given for the stacked discs inside.
