Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman January 2, 2025Considering the fact that any number of certifiable classics are still waiting for even one high definition release, it's perhaps slightly (or more than merely slightly) hilarious that this film has had two releases on Blu-ray as of the writing of this review. In a sign of putative progress, the cover of this release at least will satisfy charter members of the Grammar Police since it correctly appends an apostrophe to Cheerleaders to make it a plural possessive, unlike the Code Red release from almost ten (!) years ago. Otherwise, though, this is still the same kind of tawdry exploitation fare that its title (possessives notwithstanding) probably advertises pretty clearly, though the type of exploitation may not be exactly what some people might assume.

Brian Orndorf's Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend Blu- ray review of the now long ago Code Red release probably provides enough basic plot information to suffice for most, since the "plot" is something of a mishmash, as Brian gets into, and one designed to offer about equal amounts of female nudity and probably somewhat misogynistic violence.
Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of MVD Visual's MVD Rewind Collection imprint with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1. The MVD Rewind Collection tends not to provide a wealth of technical information on their releases, and that's once again the case here, and judging simply by a cursory comparison of the screenshots Brian uploaded to his review and the ones I've uploaded to this review suggests there's not much if any difference between this presentation and the older Code Red one. Brian gave relatively high marks to the Code Red release, but as I've mentioned with regard to my own reviews, a score granted in the "Dark Ages" of 2016 (or earlier) might not warrant the same response today. One way or the other, the element used here is pretty badly faded, with a somewhat dowdy brown look a lot of the time, and with some pretty bad damage at times (see screenshot 1). As Brian mentions in his review of the Code Red version, some of the brightly lit daytime material actually pops relatively vibrantly, and offers some decent detail levels. Darker material doesn't fare nearly as well, with crush and a lack of shadow detail. Grain can be pretty thick but doesn't have any major compression issues.
Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

The LPCM 2.0 Mono track on this Blu-ray disc unfortunately has many of the same issues Brian discusses in his review. You can hear cracks, pops and hiss right from the get go and as Brian mentions vis a vis the Code Red release, there's a somewhat muffled sound even when actual audio content kicks in. That said, I personally had no problem understanding dialogue, and some of the source cues and sound effects actually reverberated with at least decent if not overwhelming fidelity, so my score is just slightly higher than Brian's. For those who do have any issues with understanding dialogue, this release offers optional English subtitles.
Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

While MVD doesn't advertise it as new, from the looks of Brian's review the commentary by Kristine DeBell wasn't included on the old Code Red
release. Otherwise, this release ports over the mostly SD supplements from that release, and Brian's review linked to above provides a bit more
information about them.

Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

While as mentioned above Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend offers both nudity and violence, the film may never really deliver in either category for those attracted to this kind of low level fare. Technical merits are variable, though the SD interviews and commentaries may be of interest to anyone who is considering making a purchase.
