Charmed: Season 3 is a fun supernatural saga with plenty of charm up its imaginative sleeve. The series originally aired on the WB television network. The genre-hit was created by Constance M. Burge. Charmed is an entertaining television series with a great cast of characters. The series is executive produced by Constance M. Burge, Brad Kern, Aaron Spelling, and E. Duke Vincent. Charmed returns for its third season outing. Fans will want to continue the saga. The Book of Shadows awaits.
The Power of Three reunite for another journey. The Halliwell sisters find themselves facing new mysteries and obstacles in the journey of life. Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), and Prue (Shannen Doherty) discover new things about themselves and about their abilities while juggling new obstacles in their day-to-day lives: including relationships (and even marriage). Will one of the Halliwell sisters tie the knot? The Book of Shadows continues to guide the trio forward: its witchcraft brewing time. Evil lurks around every corner and only the Power of Three can defeat it.
The performances are one of the key reasons why Charmed became a runaway television success. The series combined a successful concept with a wonderful ensemble. Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Prue (Shannen Doherty), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) are all important to the success of the series. The actresses provide their unique charms and personalities to their roles. The performances fit the storytelling landscape well and imbue the series with a sense of magic (who’d have guessed).
The production values are excellent across the board. Charmed is a wonderful looking series with an impressive production design. The sets are excellent and the design effort on the primary home is terrific on numerous levels. These elements enhance the storytelling and the believability of the production.
The third season of Charmed continues to improve upon the special effects. Nonetheless, the special effects are often cartoonish and over-the-top. Even so, the effects work enhances the genre setting dutifully and the experience becomes even more action-packed and exciting. A “charmed” effect.
"Sleep over?"
The costume designs are one of the most essential elements of Charmed. Each of the leading actresses has a nice variety of costumes. The designs fit the respective characters well and aid the success of the series tenfold. The hair and make-up elements are of equal importance to the success of the series and its unique joys.
The cinematography continues to showcase the series with a unique visual aesthetic – one which fits the production to a tee. The series looks wonderful with a crisp, detailed, and vivid cinematographic style befitting the witchcraft genre. The cinematography carefully balances the comedic elements with a lighter visual dynamic juxtaposed to the darker and demonic undercurrents of the genre storytelling.
The score by Jay Gruska and J. Peter Robinson is one of the most enjoyable elements of the production. The score is entertaining fun and enhances the genre roots of the series. Charmed has an airy score to listen to and one that fits the comedic sensibilities. The demon- mayhem is underscored nicely too.
The third season continues to explore the characters and their respective journeys in witchcraft. The season brings some new elements to the table while retaining the formula which made the series a success in the first place. The storytelling is compelling and the characters manage to make this an engaging series with strong dialogue and distinct personalities. The writers did a strong job with the production.
Charmed: Season 3 is another impressive season of the hit television series. Fans of Charmed will enjoy the continuing adventures of Prue, Piper, and Phoebe. The series is engaging with fun directing and a concept that is well executed visually. With a good filmmaking approach, Charmed ticks a number of boxes in the genre-television threshold.
Arriving on Blu-ray from Paramount Pictures, Charmed: Season 3 is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in a 1.78:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The release offers an impressive high definition presentation of the series. The widescreen aspect ratio is well utilized and looks great: showcasing more detail than previous editions of the series on home media. The expanded ratio certainly helps make the series more cinematic and immersive looking (without unnecessarily cropping the image). The filmic appearance of the video looks superb. Charmed has never looked better before.
The release of Charmed: Season 3 is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo. The high-resolution lossless audio is a nice step- up from the previous season (by adding lossless audio, the experience is a much more immersive one). The audio track is crisp, clear, and engaging. Dialogue is well reproduced and is crystal clear. The sound effects are well mixed in with the track. The presentation improves on previous home media releases on DVD.
Alas, Charmed: Season 3 includes no bonus features. The release doesn't provide fans with any new supplemental material covering the production of the series (with behind-the-scenes featurettes or audio commentaries).
Charmed: Season 3 continues to provide fans with witchcraft fun. The third season brings back the original trio of Prue, Piper, and Phoebe for more adventures with the Book of Shadows. With an abundance of charm, Charmed: Season 3 continues to provide bewitching entertainment. The presentation is superb – with the arrival of a lossless, high-resolution audio track (besting the previous season sets) and a strong video-presentation. The series looks outstanding in high-definition on Blu-ray. Recommended.
