The journey continues in the sixth season of Charmed. Exploring new territory for the cast of characters, the sixth season finds more supernatural charms and suspense. The hit series from WB television was created by Constance M. Burge. Fans of the series will want to continue the journey – and arrive at a new destination in the road-map to the series finale (in season eight). As the season preceding the penultimate chapter of Charmed, Season 6 has plenty of intrigue for fans. Executive produced by Constance M. Burge, Aaron Spelling, Brad Kern, and E. Duke Vincent, Charmed is a pop-sugar-rush confection with a spooky spin on witchcraft.
The supernatural odyssey isn’t over for the bewitching Halliwell sisters. Paige (Rose McGowan), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), and Piper (Holly Marie Combs) once more unite as the tough-willed Power of Three to use their special skills in witchcraft to help defeat evil demons lurking around the shadows. The three magical witches continue to master their skills while battling new foes. This time around the witches fight new demons, warriors, and much more. The sisters embark on new adventures (three wishes, anyone)? More comedy, drama, and suspense-filled action awaits.
Rose McGowan continues to be the highlight of the series cast. McGowan is a wonderful actress and she radiates with beauty and grace. There is just something about her which is undeniably powerful and she exudes confidence and sex appeal in good measure. McGowan is the best cast member and she gives a strong performance as Paige Matthews.
The original two remaining cast members (of the Halliwell sisters) remain important to the success of Charmed as well. Alyssa Milano is particularly noteworthy as Phoebe and she has a huge personality which fits the saga well. Holly Marie Combs is also impressive in her role as Piper and provides the production with her own unique grace.
The sixth season of the series continues to highlight the production and the myriad of elements inherent within the series foundation. The set designs highlighted on Charmed remain one of the most essential (and perhaps under-rated) elements of the series production. What would the cast do without these established sets? The production design is noteworthy for how it expands the supernatural tone of Charmed.
"Did that cameraman just have a stroke?"
The sixth season has plenty of action-packed fun and adventure for fans of the series. The special effects utilized on the series are on par with the previous seasons and showcase the myriad of demons with an intriguing style – sometimes haunting and sometimes over-the-top silly. The results work either way.
One of the most fundamental elements of the production is the costume designs. The costumes are essential to the production of Charmed. The costumes are well designed for each cast member. An abundance of creativity is displayed with the designs. There is a sense of cohesion. Likewise, the hairstyling and make-up are perfection.
On a visual level, Charmed is a fantastic looking series on a cinematographic level. The bright colors and vibrant cinematography during the dramatic sequences seems perfect for this type of television series. There’s also fantastic darkness inherit within the genre roots of the production as well. What a great looking television series.
The original score remains one of the best elements of the production. The score composed by Jay Gruska and J. Peter Robinson fits the genre storytelling. The compositions are well suited to the material. Both Gruska and Robinson provide their trademark style to the television series.
The screenwriting makes a big difference to the success of Charmed. The quirky cast of characters is partly attributable to the staff of writers on Charmed. The sixth season continues that trend: the characters provide the series with a sense of whimsy that makes it more entertaining. With an abundance of demons and magical sub-plots, the writers help the sixth season be a success.
Charmed remains a well-directed production. The series is charming, entertaining, and exciting. While the sixth season might not be quite as good as the preceding season, Charmed remains the same fun series which made audiences fall in love with it in the first place. A series with a lot of offer fans.
Arriving on Blu-ray from Paramount Pictures, Charmed: Season 6 is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in a 1.78:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The video presentation on the release impresses in spades. The high-definition footage looks remarkably clean and crisp on the Blu-ray presentation. The color reproduction is excellent as well.
The season 6 release looks outstanding and fans of Charmed will be enormously pleased with the end results of the high-definition transfer process. The 1.78:1 widescreen framing looks excellent and is certainly far more immersive and cinematic. The only nitpick is occasional standard definition footage used on transition shots (such as city landscapes). These standard-definition moments are fleeting and "blink-or-you- miss-it" overall. Fans will find this Blu-ray release to be a wonderful upgrade.
The release of Charmed: Season 6 is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo. The high-resolution audio tracks are crisp and clear sounding. The presentation is a rewarding one with excellent dialogue reproduction. The original score is well reproduced as well. The original score is integrated in to the sound mixing effectively. The sound effects are balanced well.
Unfortunately, Charmed: Season 6 doesn't provide any new bonus features. The release doesn't provide audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, or making-of footage. Some interviews with the cast might have been appreciated.
Charmed: Season 6 is another exciting entry in the bewitching television series. The sixth season finds new elements to keep fans entertained. Paige (Rose McGowan), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), and Piper (Holly Marie Combs) are back in action. These badass witches are determined to take out the evil demons and fight for tomorrow. The Blu-ray release features a solid video-audio presentation. Unfortunately, the release still lacks any supplemental features of any kind (such as making of documentaries or audio commentaries). Nonetheless, the superb presentation quality makes the release easy to recommended. Fans will be thrilled with the upgrade.
