Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 22, 2020
MGM and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for 'Casino Royale,' the first Bond film to star Daniel Craig. The disc
and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below
for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Casino Royale 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

MGM favors simplicity for the Casino Royale SteelBook. For the front image, the studio has chosen to depict Bond, bowtie undone, jacket open,
facing forward but looking to his left. He's carrying a suppressed pistol in his right hand, hanging down at this side. He is seen from the thighs up. The
film's title appears center with the letter "O" in both "Casino" and "Royale" forming the "0s" in "007." Bond appears in front of a dark red background
that
lightens towards center. The rear panel is basically identical with the same metallic red paint that lightens towards the middle, but without any character
imagery. White studio logos and
legalese appear bottom, center. The spine is similarly colored. The film's title appears center. MGM and 007 logos have been placed at the top.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner
print is very minimalist, offering what amounts to a blank, dark red slate with large metallic lighter red "007" text at the bottom, only the top half or so
of
which is visible.

Casino Royale 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

MGM's minimalist approach to the Bond SteelBooks works. Perhaps depicting the entire "007" logo within the interior print might have made for a
more approachable presentation, but the off-center layout is at least unique. This is the best film in the Craig series, but it's not the best UHD of the
bunch. For collectors only.
