Overview

Cars 4K (2006)

A high-octane adventure comedy that shows life is about the journey, not the finish line. Hotshot rookie race car Lightning McQueen is living life in the fast lane until he hits a detour on his way to the most important race of his life. Stranded in Radiator Springs, a forgotten town on the old Route 66, he meets Sally, Mater, Doc Hudson, and a variety of quirky characters who help him discover that there’s more to life than trophies and fame. Cars is full of freewheeling fun for everyone.

Cars 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 15, 2019

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for 2006's fan-favorite Pixar film 'Cars.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Cars' SteelBook follows a themed visual pattern seen on the September 2019 Disney SteelBook wave (which includes Cars 2). The smooth, glossy, fingerprint attracting exterior shell is predominantly red. On the front the red gives way to a center and bottom image of Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson cruising down the road, around a bend, through the outskirts of Radiator Springs. The film's title, in the classic appearance of a vintage 50s car logo, appears at the top, center. The inner area around the title is debossed. The rear side is a similar presentation with the red giving way in the center to a smaller image, this one of the little yellow car Luigi with no background or location information to share. The spine does away with the red color, picking up a blue shading instead. The film's title, along with "Disney Pixar" text, appears center. An UltraHD logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a collection of cars parked around Flo's V8 Cafe, a prominent landmark in Radiator Springs. Much of the main cast is in attendance, including Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson, Sally Carrera, Mater, Luigi, Ramone, Sarge, and Flo.

Cars 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

This is a fairly bland SteelBook. It pops because of the abundance of color but there's nothing that really screams "unique" or "must own" about it. The offsetting spine color is probably the nicest feature, because the front and back panels are very vanilla and the inner print is fine if unspectacular. Recommended only for serious SteelBook collectors.
