Cars 3 Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman July 4, 2020

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the Pixar film 'Cars 3.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Cars 3 Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

Disney's SteelBook is slick and smooth and will show fingerprints, but the lighter color scheme keeps the density thereof to a minimum. The colors have a metallic reflectiveness about them. The front panel depicts Lightning McQueen racing through water, splashing along the beach, seen from a cool ground-up perspective positioned just in front of the car. The front right wheel is most prominent, followed by the length of the right-hand side. A rich blue sky appears above and the film's title in the familiar style and script, with accompanying "Disney Pixar" text, appears top left. The rear panel essentially carries over the image, though it is broken up by the spine. From about the same perspective, but at a slightly greater distance, Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm can be seen racing along the beach behind Lightning. There's some sandy terrain bottom, a pier extending behind Jackson, and cloudy blue skies filling the majority of the scene above the cars. Small copyright info has been placed bottom left in black. The spine is a metallic red color. The film's title appears center in scripted chrome lettering. A Disney Blu-ray logo has been placed at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code floats; there are no tabs with which to hold it down. The three discs, two Blu-rays and one DVD, are situated on both sides, a single disc on the left and two on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Jackson Storm, primarily seen on the left with some spread into the right, and Lightning McQueen bottom right, racing along a track. A relaxing sunset scene appears above and behind.

Cars 3 Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

What a beautiful SteelBook. The front image is amazing and the metallic color and bright tones bring a feel of both movement and abundant life to it. The rear panel is less dynamic but a faithful continuation, and the red spine is sure to stand apart on the shelf. The inner print is a bit more generic but looks fine. The film is great as is the Blu-ray presentation. Highly recommended.
