Cars 2 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 16, 2019

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for 2011's digitally animated sequel film 'Cars 2.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Cars 2 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

Cars 2's SteelBook follows a themed visual pattern seen on the September 2019 Disney/Pixar SteelBook wave (which includes Cars). The smooth, glossy, fingerprint attracting exterior shell is predominantly green in color. On the front the green gives way to a center and bottom image of Mater, parachuting into London, while Finn McMissile cruises down the road with Parliament in the background. The film's title, in the classic appearance of a vintage 50s car logo, appears at the top, center. The inner area around the title is debossed. The rear side is a similar presentation with the green giving way in the center to a smaller image, this one depicting The Queen with no background or location information to share. The spine does away with the green color, picking up a red shading instead. The film's title, along with "Disney Pixar" text, appears center. An UltraHD logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code floats; there are no tabs. The three discs, one UHD and two Blu-ray, are situated on both sides. The feature Blu-ray disc appears on its own hub on the left while the UHD and the special features Blu-ray appear on the right in staggered-stacked formation (at least that's how they ship). The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a few cars, prominently Lightning McQueen on the left and Mater on the right, speeding away from an explosion behind Lightning on the left.

Cars 2 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

This is a fairly bland SteelBook. It pops because of the abundance of color but there's nothing that really screams "unique" or "must own" about it. The offsetting spine color is probably the nicest feature, because the front and back panels are very vanilla and the inner print is fine if unspectacular. Recommended only for serious SteelBook collectors.
