Can't Hardly Wait Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman December 4, 2018
Sony previously released 'Can't Hardly Wait' to Blu-ray in 2008. One of the most popular Teen comedies of all time earned a decent Blu-ray
release dubbed '10 Year Reunion Edition.' Mill Creek has again distributed the film to the 1080p format in 2018, this time labeled the "20 Year
Reunion Edition," without any substantial differences.
The 1080p transfer appears nearly identical to Sony's. The newly encoded DTS audio differs little from Sony's TrueHD presentation. No new extras
are included
and most from the supplements from the Sony disc carry over, with a couple notable omissions in the form of a trivia track and a 90s quiz.

Wouldn't I be beautiful in 4K?
On the night of their high school graduation, a myriad of seniors gather for one final party that
will be long remembered for its many twists and turns and the upheaval of the status quo that
ruled their lives for four years. Popular jock Mike Dexter (Peter Facinelli) has just dumped
longtime girlfriend Amanda Beckett (Jennifer Love Hewitt, I Know What You Did Last
Summer) in preparation for what he believes will be an onslaught of attractive girls to
woo in college. Meanwhile, nerd William Lichter (Charlie Korsmo) plans revenge on Mike for the
various humiliations he's endured at the hands of the jock and his friends over the years. Kenny
Fisher (Seth Green, The Italian Job) comes
to the party with a list of 10 female classmates, convinced one of them will wind up spending the
night with him. Shy guy Preston Meyers (Ethan Embry, Vacancy) hopes to
finally proclaim his longtime love for Amanda, and he drags friend Denise Fleming (Lauren
Ambrose) to the party for moral support. As the night progresses, each of these characters will
discover more
about themselves, and each other, than four years of high school ever revealed.

Can't Hardly Wait Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Audiences have waited for more Can't Hardly Wait to come to Blu-ray for more than a decade. Mill Creek has answered the call but released
the film with
what appears to be the same transfer used on the dated 2008 Sony release. There's precious little difference between two, most notably an extremely
slight
alteration in color, leaving the Mill Creek a hint more red. Otherwise, comparisons reveal essentially no change in texture or framing. For a video review
of the Sony release, which essentially applies to this release, please click here.
Can't Hardly Wait Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

Can't Hardly Wait featured a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless soundtrack 10 years ago. Mill Creek has seemingly released the same track with a new
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless encode. For a full audio review of the TrueHD track, which essentially carries over to this disc, please
Note that this version does not include the additional language and subtitle options available on the Sony disc, including French, Portuguese, and Thai
audio and French, Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian, Korean, Mandarin, and Thai subtitles.
Can't Hardly Wait Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Can't Hardly Wait's 20th anniversary release contains only rollover supplementals from the previously released 10 year anniversary
edition. There are three omissions: the You Know You're '90's If... quiz, the Special K's 411 Track Yo' pop-up trivia track, and the
Sony
trailers collage. For full supplemental reviews, please click here. For convenience, below is a list of what's included. No
DVD or digital versions are included. The release ships with a non-embossed slipcover.
- Audio Commentary: "Original" track with Co-Writers/Co-Directors Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, Producer Jenno Topping, and Actor
Seth Green.

Can't Hardly Wait Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Mill Creek has done little to entice repeat buyers to pick up this release of Can't Hardly Wait. A few supplements have been removed from the
Sony disc and the video and audio encodes don't make any significant alterations for the better or for the worse. This release does ship with a
slipcover, though, which might be enough to make collectors pick it up. No digital copy is included. Fans who missed the disc the first time
around can pick it up with relative confidence and at a good price, but those who still own the Sony disc have no reason to upgrade.
