Bloodshot 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman July 17, 2020

Sony and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the Vin Diesel franchise hopeful 'Bloodshot.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. Interestingly, this SteelBook was original schedule to release alongside that disc but was delayed for over two months, presumably due to the COVID-19 pandemic. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

The SteelBook's surface is flat; there's not going to be any visible fingerprinting from basic handling and the SteelBook won't slip and slide around in the hand, either. The front panel prominently depicts Bloodshot, center, from the upper chest up. He's standing, facing forward, in front of a large red circle with some black above, broken up by some arcing red lines, on the lower of which is a creature. Below is a clash between two combatants in silhouette against a bright white color which extends in streaks and splotches upwards at an angle. The rear panel depicts Bloodshot in extreme facial close-up. Only the right side of his face is visible as it's cut off in the middle by the SteelBook's right-hand edge. He's holding a firearm, pointed upward, next to his head. It is also predominately comprised of shades of black and red. The spine is a flat black with the film's title appearing center. A Sony Pictures logo has been placed at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that depicts a wall holding several firearms, one on the left and three on the right. The image is densely red, lighter to distinguish the guns and growing darker towards the bottom to near black. There is a chain link-like filter placed atop the weapons.

Bloodshot 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

For those bummed about this SteelBook's delay, it's here now and it looks fairly good, better in person than in the studio mock-ups. The film is OK but the UHD presentation is fairly strong. Recommended.
