Black Panther 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman April 6, 2024
Wal-mart has been upping its SteelBook ante lately with a number of releases from Lionsgate in particular, but now a new slate of so-called Mondo X
releases in partnership with Disney / Buena Vista and Marvel. I've included several photos of the very handsome packaging here for those who are
interested to pore over.
Black Panther has had a number of previous releases in both 1080 and 4K UHD, including some prior releases offering limited SteelBook
packaging. For those wanting a plot recap and technical assessments of the 4K UHD release, Martin Liebman's
Black Panther 4K Blu-ray review should suffice quite handily, and Marty also
contributed both this
review and this
review of separate Best Buy SteelBook releases of
the film that may be of some interest to fans.

Black Panther 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

On disc supplements are detailed in the above linked review. The SteelBook packaging here offers a rather luxe look given its kind of quasi-Deco
filagree elements as well as its prevalence of darker black and brown tones with a deep gold overlay, all of which gives this a decidedly different
appearance from either of the previously released Best Buy SteelBooks from several years ago. The entire look, which offers several portraits of the
title hero, is kind of interestingly
retro in quality, but quite evocative. The Mylar O ring (you can see a photo of it separately in the sixth photo, as well as it over the SteelBook itself in
the fourth and fifth photos) offers a bit more of the Deco stylizations.
If there is one niggling complaint some may have, it's one I've seen repeated in a number of other recent Wal-mart exclusive SteelBooks, namely kind
of frankly nondescript inner panels (see the seventh photo). A digital copy is also included.
Black Panther 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

True diehard collectors are almost always "completists", and those types of fans may want to pick this release up even if they got one or possibly both
of the previously released SteelBooks from Best Buy. That said, I personally find this SteelBook to be far and away the most attractively designed of
the three available, with a cool retro-Deco look that is very evocative. Recommended.
