Bill and Ted Face the Music is a must-see continuation on the beloved film series that began with the comedy classic Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest), Bill and Ted Face the Music is a perfect grand finale to the series. Fans won't want to miss it.
With the fate of the universe hanging in the balance, Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are running out of time to create the perfect “epic” song to save the world and unite humanity as one. On a new adventure of epic proportions, Bill and Ted set out to travel through time once more: to go to the future and borrow their unwritten “masterpiece” song from their future selves (after the song is already written).
Along the absolutely epic journey, princess brides Elizabeth (Erinn Hayes) and Joanna (Jayma Mays) join in on the time-travel fun (while simultaneously dealing with some rather unusual marriage counseling with Bill and Ted – four to one). Even Death (William Sadler) returns once more.
Can the universe be saved from annihilation? Aiming to help their goofball musician fathers, daughters Thea (Samara Weaving) and Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine) set out to form a band of tubular dudes to help bring the music to life. Recruiting musicians throughout time, Thea and Billie might just be the ultimate key to the perfect song. Sweet!
There are many outstanding elements to the film. The music by Mark Isham (Once Upon a Time, The Majestic) helps enhance the filmmaking (while the songs provide the film with a sense of superb energy). The cinematography by Shelly Johnson (Captain America: The First Avenger, Hidalgo) is particularly impressive and brings the Bill and Ted franchise to new and modern dimensions.
The screenplay by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon (who created the characters and wrote both previous installments in the series) is entertaining from start to finish: the screenwriters had an absolute blast bringing back these characters and playing in their world again. The results are outstanding. Bill and Ted get plenty of comedic moments to shine while Thea the Billie have impressive moments to shine as the daughter characters. Excellent!
Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) managed to bring the franchise back to life in a fantastic and fun-filled way. Bill and Ted Face the Music is a perfect swan song for one of the best comedy franchises in history. Fans of Bill and Ted won't want to miss a minute.
Party on, dudes!

Arriving on 4K UHD from Warner Bros., Bill and Ted Face the Music is presented in 2160p HEVC / H. 265 in the theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen. The release presents a native 4K UHD encode. The presentation quality on the release is "most excellent" in almost every regard. The encoding preserves the exceptional cinematography. Sharp, crisp, and engaging.
The only downside is the lack of high-dynamic-range (HDR). The release does not include HDR as the director and director of photography did not create an HDR grade for the film. For viewers hoping to see the film in the best quality, Bill and Ted Face the Music looks great in 4K.
The release is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The lossless audio on the release is top-notch. The bass is deep and smooth without ever sounding boomy or over-the-top. Dialogue is clear and easy to understand. The music score is well reproduced and is well integrated within the surround sound stage. An excellent presentation.
The release includes the same selection of supplemental features which are provided on the standard Blu-ray edition. These extras may be found on the included Blu-ray in the combo-packed edition. No additional supplemental features are provided on the 4K UHD disc (which preserves the disc space for providing the ultimate in video and audio quality.)
For additional information on the supplemental package, please refer to the Blu-ray edition review by my colleague, Randy Miller III.
Bill and Ted Face the Music is one of the most entertaining and essential films of 2020. Fans of the classic comedy franchise will be enormously pleased with the final chapter in the epic saga. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are at the top of their game in the film. With plenty of laugh- out-loud moments, no fan should go without seeing this instant classic. A great send-off to the series.
The 4K UHD presentation is similarly impressive and is well worth picking up. Though the 4K UHD disc does not include a HDR grade (as no pass was completed by the director), Bill and Ted Face the Music looks outstanding nonetheless and offers a nice (if sometimes modest) upgrade over a 1080p presentation. Highly recommended.
