Big Hero 6 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman December 4, 2019

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the 2014 digitally animated film 'Big Hero 6.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Big Hero 6 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.0 of 5

Disney's Big Hero 6 SteelBook recalls the terrific original poster art for The Rocketeer. The front cover prominently features the armored Baymax ascending up into the sky, almost vertically oriented. Hiro, so small in comparison, can be seen riding on Baymax's back up near the head. Streaks of orange, yellow, and blue match the launch angle, giving the perspective of upward motion. The film's title in the familiar white type and within a red box appears bottom right. The rear panel is similarly designed but includes an orange silhouette of the San Fransokyo skyline which is visible in the bottom left quadrant. Flying upward in hero forms are Fred, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, and Go Go. A small copyright notice in white appears bottom in between left and center and a model number in black appears bottom right. The front and rear panels are smooth and slick and will show fingerprints. There is no embossing or debossing work. The spine is a red color, darker at the top and lightening on the way to the bottom. The film's title appears center. An UltraHD logo can be found at the top while a Disney logo has been placed at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that depicts a scene featuring Hiro and Baymax embracing one another. The characters appear on the left hand side; the remainder of the panel depicts the room in which they are standing.

Big Hero 6 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

Disney's Big Hero 6 SteelBook features clean lines, a colorful background, and a focus on characters. It's exciting in the front and rear and tender on the inside. The UHD presentation of the film is not memorable, but the SteelBook is very nice. Fans and collectors will want to pick it up.
