Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 20, 2020
Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the live action adaptation of 'Beauty and the Beast.' The disc
and digital content is identical to that found in the Blu-ray wide release; note that the film is now available in 4K in both standard and SteelBook packaging. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the
review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

The rose is central to the Beauty and the Beast story. It's the front cover centerpiece to the animated version's 4K SteelBook (link above) and
it's the front focal point here, too. With this one, the rose appears under its ornate glass covering, It sits in front of a window, outside of which is
a dark night sky and gray spires. Decorative window work appears behind, too. The film's title is situated on the bottom-third of the cover in familiar
golden script. "Disney" accompanies above. The rear side depicts Belle and Beast dancing, center, illuminated from above, surrounded by darkness
on the left, right, and bottom. Belle's flowing yellow dress offers a splash of brilliance. It is also similar to the animated SteelBook rear panel design.
Both front and rear are slick, smooth, and will display handling fingerprints. The spine is a marbly dark blue color. The film's title appears center as it is
on the front. A Disney Blu-ray logo has been placed at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a busy assortment of characters, locations, and objects. There are too
many to call out by name, but suffice it to say most of the main cast shows up here or there, particularly along the left edge and throughout the bottom
half of the right. Tonal variations are apparent, too, as the left side is more blue and gray, the right more golden. Fans will enjoy digging through it,
finding both the obvious objects and the hideaways, too.

Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

The live action Beauty and the Beast can't hold a Lumière to the 1991 animated film, but it's a serviceable adaptation that certainly has its
strengths, which include this SteelBook, a gorgeous example of front and rear cover design. The inside is a bit cluttered, but that rarely sees the light of
day, anyway. Highly recommended.
