Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

While 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' originally released on Blu-ray in July of 2016, Warner Brothers re-relased the film in an attractive, collectible SteelBook package in October 2017, directly tying in with the release of 'Justice League,' which this film's subtitle obviously references. The two-disc SteelBook set includes the same two discs from the two-disc 'BvS' Blu-ray release; it does not, unfortunately, include the film on UHD.

The SteelBook artwork is of an animated, comic book style, which fits in with several other DC live action films -- Man of Steel, the aforementioned Justice League, Wonder Woman -- that have arrived on the collectible packaging scene
and will hopefully follow with next year's inevitable release of Aquaman. As for BvS's artwork, it's very impressive. The image depicts The
Man of Steel delivering a vicious uppercut to The Dark Knight, the latter of whom is decked out in one of the bulkier suits in the arsenal, as seen
prominently in the film. The two battle in a storm, recreating a key sequence within the movie. A predominately dark blue background, punctuated by
lightning strikes, offsets the clashing titans. The film's title appears atop, with a somewhat distracting red banner declaring "Ultimate Edition." A DC
logo appears top-left.
The SteelBook's rear panel features the same image, shifted upward a little to reveal slightly more bottom information, which makes sense given the
absence of the film's title. There are very slight alterations
in addition to the shift, notably the black-and-white depiction and less notably the absence of the lightning streaks. No text (beyond artist signature)
appears on the rear panel. The spine carries over the blue backdrop with the film's title appearing in white lettering, filling much of the spine. A Blu-ray
disc logo appears atop and DC and Warner Brothers logos appear at the bottom. Inside, the digital copy code is tucked into to the left panel's tabs. The
two Blu-ray discs are staggered-stacked on the right-hand side. The inner artwork is not a drawing but rather a still from the film. It features
Superman and Batman, from the same scene in the film which is depicted on the front and rear, facing off with Batman on the left and Superman on
the right. The right-hand panel continues the scene but is predominately a dark, rainy backdrop that offers little more than scene context. A credits
cluster tastefully appears below the image on the left.

Batman v Superman may have divided audiences, but Warner Brothers' SteelBook certainly should not. The artwork is gorgeous, front and back alike. WB and DC have done a wonderful job with the entire DC live action SteelBook line which will hopefully continue with future installments. The only drawback, really, is that this set does not include the 4K version, but serious collectors can just swap those discs in and give these Blu-rays to a friend. Recommended.
