Batman Ninja Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 17, 2018Warner Brothers has released the Anime/Superhero mash-up film 'Batman Ninja' to Blu-ray in SteelBook packaging, which is available widely. Beyond the packaging, the content -- Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copy -- are identical to the standard packaging release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for more on the SteelBook.

Batman Ninja Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

The glossy, fingerprint prone SteelBook manufactured for Batman Ninja is very attractive. Against a dark backdrop, the front features Batman
prominently in the lower half, facing
forward and ready to draw a Katana. Above him are depictions of Harley Quinn and The Joker, the former a bit smaller in the middle and the latter
looming much larger at the top. Both villains appear mid-laugh (big surprise) while Batman appears more stoic, as usual. The film's title appears at the
top in a fairly flat tan color, and the DC logo also appears top-left in the same color. The rear panel features a character collage against a bright moon
at
the top. Gorilla Grodd, Penguin, Two-Face, Catwoman, and Batman all appear from top to bottom, all very colorful in gorgeously rendered art. The
colors on both sides are fairly reflective. The spine is a simple glossy black with the film's title centered, a Blu-ray logo at the top, and DC and WB logos
at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand side tabs. The two discs, one Blu-ray and one DVD, are housed on the right,
staggered-stacked. The inside panel is gorgeously simple. The left-hand side features a serene, partly cloudy blue sky while on the right, under both
discs,
is a
depiction of Batman, in profile, gazing towards the left. Like the front and rear, the colors are fairly glossy and very attractive, through obviously much
more subdued than the busier front and black panels. The left-hand side additionally features a cast and crew cluster as well as the film's rating and a
couple of DC and WB logos, amongst some legalese. The only real disappointment with this SteelBook is that the front and rear covers simply recycle
those from
the standard packaging Blu-ray, though the rear at least does away with the text and focuses solely on the admittedly beautiful artwork that translates
very
well to the SteelBook surface.

Batman Ninja Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Batman Ninja blends two fandom favorites: DC comics and Anime. It's an imperfect but unique and occasionally fascinating hybrid that is not as weird as it sounds or even sometimes looks. The SteelBook is very attractive, albeit unable to differentiate itself much from the wide release in terms of basic artwork, but it is gorgeous and lends itself well to the collectible packaging. On-disc content is identical to the standard packaging release. Recommended.
