Sony has released the Michael Bay films 'Bad Boys' (1995) and 'Bad Boys II' (2003) to the UHD format, both featuring 2160p/HDR video and new Dolby Atmos soundtracks. No new supplements are included, but the bundled Blu-ray discs are identical to the 'Mastered in 4K' Blu-ray releases from 2015 ('Bad Boys', 'Bad Boys II'). This boxed set, as well as a two-film Best Buy exclusive SteelBook, are currently the only ways to own either film on the UHD format.

Bad Boys I & II 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

This Bad Boys UHD double pack ships in a rather unique package that is likely to divide fans who can appreciate (and want to display) something different and those who would rather see the films packaged in basic, individual cases (or whatever their own preferred packaging style may be, for that matter). The sturdy outer box measures in at just under 7" wide, 5.5" high, and a touch over 1" deep. The front image depicts Lowrey and Burnett, the former with arms extended to either side, a Glock pistol in either hand. Burnett stands behind; the two are basically back to back, with Burnett looking over his left shoulder. A couple of burned-up cars appear in the immediate background, setting the scene as the heroes stand in the midst or aftermath of a fight. The rear side depicts the same characters, Burnett belly down on the floor and Lowrey to his left, raised a little off the floor, angrily pointing his Sig-Sauer pistol at an aggressor. Both images appear in the films' identifiable golden hue. Top, bottom, and one side are all identical, with Bad Boys I & II in large print and small UHD and Columbia Pictures logos in accompaniment.

The four discs -- two UHD, two Blu-ray -- are housed in two cases inside, which slide out the side of the outer box. They're a little longer than a standard audio CD case and about the same height. The discs are housed on plastic, transparent hubs. Stylized artwork appears underneath, for Bad Boys a depiction of Miami nightlife and for Bad Boys II a large truck barreling forwards. The front of the cases depict basic, familiar artwork for each film, the first featuring Téa Leoni's character in addition to those played by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. The rear sides feature a plot recap paragraph, a still from the movie, special features listings, and various tech and credits clusters. Spines are simple black with the films' titles appearing in contrasting white.

Neither film contains new extras on the UHD discs beyond a handful of still images in the "Cast and Crew" tabs. Bad Boys I & II 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

Sony has proven to be the master of the catalogue 4K release. Most everything the studio produces is of reference quality, and the Bad Boys films offer the same, which should come as no surprise. The previously issued "Mastered in 4K" discs were already of reference quality (the sequel in particular) and both of the films on UHD rise to the top of the format's rankings. Atmos audio is good (Bad Boys) and excellent (Bad Boys II). No new supplements are included, but the carryover Blu-rays deliver a decent amount of content. Highly recommended.
