Avatar: The Way of Water 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman December 19, 2023
Disney / Buena Vista is (are?) offering fans of the Avatar franchise some gorgeous repackaging editions with some actual new content to
boot, one assumes as potential holiday
gifts. This release features Avatar: The Way of Water in both 1080 and 4K UHD versions, along with a glut of bonus material, including
some new features.

For my thoughts on the film, please consult my original

The 4K UHD Disc and 1080 Disc One offer the feature film. 1080 Disc Three repeats the supplements detailed in

review
and Avatar: The Way of Water Blu-ray review,
while 1080 Disc Two offers the following new supplements:
- Behind the Scenes Presentation Hosted by Jon Landau (HD; 36:56) has a lot of fun information and background data, but this is
another weirdly directed featurette that alternately has Landau directly addressing the camera and then staring off at an angle for no discernable
reason, something I find kind of distracting.
- Memories from Avatar: The Way of Water (HD; 19:10) features Jon Landau, with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana,
Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.
- Production Design Panel Hosted by Jon Landau (HD; 32:09) features Aashrita Kamath, Ben Procter and Dylan Cole.
- Deleted Scenes (HD; 32:52) follows the "tradition" of supplements for the first film by offering some unfinished shots.
- Scene Deconstruction (HD; 24:49) also mimics an extra on the original film which offers 11 scenes in various levels of completion,
able to be viewed either picture in picture or by toggling using the color buttons on your remote.
- Production Materials (HD; 1:10:27) offers a fantastic aggregation of featurettes that offer everything from James Cameron insisting
the cast and crew "go vegetarian" for one meal a day (something this near lifelong vegetarian heartily approves of), to 3D technology to a really
sweet piece devoted to sign language used for the underwater scenes.
- Beyond the Big Screen (HD; 53:10) offers another collection of featurettes, with pieces devoted to Disney's Animal Kingdom, James
Cameron and Jon Landau getting their hand and feetprints immortalized in cement, and more.
- Archives: Script, Artwork, Marketing
- Monday Night Football TV Spot (HD; 2:02)
- Original Script (HD)

Avatar: The Way of Water 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

As I've joked in some previous reviews of Disney releases, the studio is certainly not averse to "recycling" titles again and again (and again), in what
I'm sure strikes some people as unrepentant cash grabs, but at least in this instance the packaging is rather gorgeous (as can be seen in the photos
I've uploaded to this review), and there is some new content. Whether or not the packaging and new items are enough to warrant a double
dip will of course be up to the individual consumer, but on its own merits, this new release comes Highly recommended.
