Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 4K + 3D Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard June 15, 2025

Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is produced by Kevin Feige (Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy). The third installment of the popular Ant-Man franchise following the original Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was unable to turn a box-office profit. Even so, Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an entertaining entry in the franchise and it stands as the 31st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The journey of Ant Man (Paul Rudd) is far from over and there are many surprises in store for the tiny pint-sized hero. A new mission unexpectedly takes Scott Lang – otherwise known as Ant Man – into the far reaches of the Quantum Realm. Tossed into a new and strange world, Ant Man is joined by his family members, including The Wasp: Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and his beautiful daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton). Now tossed into the dangers of the Quantum Realm and all of the sci-fi terrors the otherworld contains within, the Ant Man family must face off against the evil and villainous tyrant, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). There is also a run-in with the quirk Lord Krylar (Bill Murray). Can Ant Man and his family team defeat Kang and return home to the Avengers?

The cast of Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is one of the essential elements of the sequel. Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania features a compelling ensemble and each of the lead characters adds something special to the production. Paul Rudd is exceptional in the leading role as Ant-Man and his every-day being as Scott Lang. Evangeline Lilly continues to impress as The Wasp and adds a lot of excitement to the action scenes.

Kathryn Newton is perfect casting as Ant-Man’s daughter, Cassie Lang. Newton is both spunky and sexy. The entire family of characters adds something to the film – with the antics of Michael Douglas’s Dr. Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet Van Dyne entertaining in spades, too. If there is one disappointment to the casting, Jonathan Majors feels miscast as Kang the Conqueror.

The production merits are exceptional and add a lot to Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film features a wonderful production design effort by Will Htay. Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is beautifully designed from a production standpoint and these elements work well alongside the elaborate green screen designs of Quantumania.

Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania features art direction by Dean Clegg (No Time to Die, Skyfall). The art direction is another compelling and essential element of the film. There is much to cherish about the designs. The artistry is part of the fun of the Marvel Cinematic Universe world building.

The costume designs by Sammy Sheldon (Ex Machina, V for Vendetta) are well-done and add a lot to the filmmaking. The costumes make a solid impression throughout Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. There is much to appreciate about the efforts by Sheldon. Each of the main cast of characters has an impressive costume design. These costumes work well both for the every- day lives of the characters alongside the superheroic costumes, too.

Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania features a score composed by Christophe Beck (Ant-Man, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The score is one of the strengths of the action-adventure epic. The music plays a vital role in the Marvel storytelling. The action sequences are brought to life by the adventurous and exciting music. The score also manages to play a nice role in highlighting the characters and their own journeys.

The cinematography by Bill Pope (The Matrix, Spider-Man 2) is one of the best qualities of the entire feature-film. Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has beautiful and lush cinematography and the expansive visuals add a lot to the film. The vibrant cinematography adds a lot to the spectacle and magic. There is a lot to appreciate about the visual sensibilities of Pope as cinematographer – one of the best in the industry.

Edited by Adam Gerstel (Lilo & Stitch, The Lion King) and Laura Jennings (Edge of Tomorrow, Morgan), Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is well-paced. The filmmaking flows well throughout. The film doesn’t feel dull or overlong and it manages to zip by with good rhythm. A well-done edit by both Gerstel and Jennings.

Written by Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty, Miracle Workers), Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a lot of fun as a Marvel adventure and much of the energy can be contributed to the solid screenplay. The script manages both an enjoyable story and good comedic timing. The comedy elements are well-done throughout and there certainly are some good one-liners.

Directed by Peyton Reed (Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp), Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is another excellent installment in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the Ant-Man film franchise. Despite being the third installment, Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is still a lot of fun and the world-building seems more impressive than most third entries in film series manage. Reed is a talented director and there are some great visuals throughout the feature.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 4K + 3D Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  5.0 of 5

Released on 3D Blu-ray by Disney and Marvel, Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 widescreen.  The 3D Blu-ray presentation is spectacular and every bit as good as the film was during its theatrical IMAX 3D run. The outstanding 3D visuals add layers to the presentation – enhancing the visuals in spades.

The 3D depth is impressive throughout the entire feature – from the opening to the epic sequences in Quantumania. The action scenes are significantly more impressive as a result and audiences will appreciate the 3D layering. Pop out effects aren't the main draw for this particular presentation, the 3D depth and layering are the main aspect of the 3D video and it is exceptional. 3D is absolutely the best way to experience the film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 4K + 3D Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.5 of 5

The release is presented in English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround sound. The lossless, high-resolution audio sounds incredible on the release. The dynamic surround sound presentation is enormously immersive. The crisp and detailed audio impresses in spades. Dialogue is clear and is easy to understand. The score and soundstage are exceptionally reproduced.
