Ant-Man 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman October 10, 2019

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Peyton Reed's Marvel Cinematic Universe film 'Ant-Man.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Ant-Man 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.5 of 5

Disney's SteelBook strikes a nice balance between cluttered and classy. The front image prominently features Scott Lang as Ant-Man standing tall front and center. Around him is a cluster of characters including Darren Cross, Hope van Dyne, Hank Pym, Scott Lang in street attire (looking a little scruff and worse for wear), Jim Paxton, and Luis. The Golden Gate Bridge stretches across the top. The background is a relaxing blue tone. As with other MCU SteelBooks, the image's border shows points of wear and the full image is situated within a thin themed border. Some of the wear points and highlights are reflective. The rear panel depicts a Pym Particle Disc center, surrounded by a dark blue coloring with plenty of wear points. Front and rear panels are glossy but not super slick and not fingerprint magnets. It's a very nice, balanced presentation for both look and feel. The spine features an even darker shade of blue with the film's title appearing center in small type. A Marvel Studios logo appears at the top and an UltraHD logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a miniaturized Ant-Man squatting down, examining a curious ant looking back up at him.

Ant-Man 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

This is a very nice SteelBook; Disney has struck a good balance for the presentation's look and feel. The rear panel is a bit uninspired, as is the running trend for Disney SteelBooks, but the inner print is well done. The UHD content is good, particularly the video presentation. Recommended.
