Ron Burgundy is San Diego's top-rated news anchorman. While he is outwardly willing to adjust to the idea of females in the workplace -- even outside of secretarial positions -- he certainly doesn't want his own job challenged. Keeping that in mind, it's no wonder that the arrival of Veronica Corningstone, an aspiring newswoman, is, in Ron's eyes, not the studio's most welcome addition. After Veronica pays her dues covering so-called female-oriented fluff pieces (think cat fashion shows and cooking segments), the ambitious Veronica sets her eyes on the news desk; more specifically, on Ron's seat behind it. Not unpredictably, Ron doesn't take the threat lightly, and it isn't long before the rival newscasters are engaged in a very personal battle of the sexes.

Paramount has released the long anticipated 4K UHD version of the fan favorite sensation 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.' New specifications include 2160p/Dolby Vision video. The UHD recycles the same DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack from the original 2010 Blu-ray release. Additionally, the set includes the two Blu-ray discs from the original release which house the plethora of bonus content from the original issue. No new extras are included, and no supplements are to be found on the UHD disc. The UHD disc contains only the theatrical cut of the film (1:34:04) while the original Blu-ray includes both the theatrical and the 97-minute extended cut.
The included screenshots are sourced from a 1080p Blu-ray disc.
All these years later, the 2010 Blu-ray still looks fairly good and is perfectly watchable -- I was actually surprised by its quality, not having seen the
film
for going on 14 years -- but there is no denying that Paramount's new 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD presentation is very much its superior. This new UHD
looks striking, bringing the material up to 2024 home video standards with a picture that is faithfully filmic and abundantly sharp, delighting with a
very natural
and
tangible grain structure. The higher resolution allows for incredible -- truly incredible -- clarity on the often heavily textured apparel that is so
often seen in the film, with dense patterns and tangible fabrics commonplace on sport coats, neckties, and dresses, all reaching well beyond the
comparatively paltry (yet still pleasantly sharp!) Blu-ray visuals. The same is true of faces and hair, both of which enjoy a significant bump in overall
detail and density on the UHD. Likewise, overall clarity is stellar, allowing audiences to see the intimate details on sets, offices, and other areas that
are
prominently featured in the film. There is no mistaking that at 2160p, Anchorman blows away the Blu-ray and looks as richly filmic as
audiences could have possibly desired.
Not to be outdone are the wonderful Dolby Vision colors. The new grading brings heretofore unseen pop and accuracy to the film that the old Blu-ray,
as colorful and nicely saturated as it may be, cannot approach. Again, clothing stands as one of the primary beneficiaries, with not only new and
improved, but greatly new and improved, accuracy, punch, vividness, and saturation. Contrast is terrific and temperature seems absolutely
perfect to bring out the best in warm and earthy tones or bold red, blue, and other era-inspired clothing hues. Neckties are super punchy, warm
woods are deeply saturated, and skin tones look extraordinarily healthy and accurate. Black levels are wonderfully deep and white balance is
practically perfect. There is no mistaking the exceptional new sense of depth and stability that Dolby Vision brings to the experience.
Beyond that, the UHD is technically perfect, offering not a trace of compression related issues. Of course, the print is clean and efficient as well. It
would be difficult to imagine Anchorman looking any better than it does here.

This UHD release of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy includes no extras on the UHD disc, but the feature film and bonus feature
Blu-ray discs bring over the same extras suite as found on the previously released 2010 issue. See below for a list of what's included and please click
here for full supplemental content
coverage. Additionally, Paramount ships the film with a fresh digital copy code and an alternate artwork non-embossed slipcover.
Disc One:
Paramount hasn't exactly been consistent with its catalogue UHD releases, but it has certainly done right by this fan favorite. The studio's new 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD presentation is phenomenal, and fans are going to be thrilled. It's the only thing that's new here; the main audio track and the supplemental materials are copied over from the original 2010 Blu-ray set, but the picture upgrade alone is well worth the cost of admission. Recommended.
