Director Ava DuVernay's 'A Wrinkle in Time' ruffled some feathers when it hit theaters, with many jeering the production's various and, sometimes, fundamental alterations to the beloved source novel. While this reviewer enjoyed the movie well enough at face value, the picture's divisive nature will certainly remain the central narrative, and it's likely why Best Buy's ever-popular line of SteelBook releases was not enlarged by one with a 4K UHD release of the film. Instead, a basic Blu-ray-only release has made it into the collectible packaging. It's not the best looking SteelBook ever, but it's also not the worst ever. Read on below for more on the SteelBook's features.

Best Buy's SteelBook release of A Wrinkle in Time offers nothing new beyond packaging. Disc content remains the same, and both a DVD and
a Movies Anywhere digital copy voucher are included with purchase.
The SteelBook is modestly attractive. The front side depicts five of the film's main characters floating within a swirling effect. The characters appear to
have been photoshopped in one at a time, with everyone looking forward except for Oprah's Mrs. Which who is inexplicably staring off to the left (her
right) and a
bit above. Regardless, the design is fundamentally sound and the film's title is nicely offset in white below. Sadly, there is no embossing or debossing
work on here, quite unlike Disney's vastly superior Best Buy exclusive SteelBook release for The Incredibles, which debuted on the same day.
The rear side is more visually captivating, featuring a more artistically streamlined but very telling image of Meg reaching up into the swirling vortex.
It's colorful, sharp, and tasteful (and just a bit off-center which adds a subtle but at the same time striking dynamic), a strong counterpoint to the fairly
pedestrian (though fundamentally attractive) front cover. The spine simply lists the
film's title in the middle, a Disney logo at the top, and a Blu-ray logo on the bottom. Inside, the two discs come inexplicably stacked on the same side
rather than separated one per side. The inner artwork depicts Meg and Calvin standing amongst dense foliage.

Most will wrinkle their nose at A Wrinkle in Time, but SteelBook collectors shouldn't be quick to dismiss this particular release. While it has some drawbacks -- less-than-stellar front cover artwork and no UHD disc -- it's colorful, sleek, and the backside artwork is really quite gorgeous. For those who liked the movie, and for those who like SteelBooks, recommended.
