A Star Is Born 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman February 22, 2019

Best Buy and Warner Brothers have collaborated on a handsome, minimalist SteelBook release for 2018's 'A Star Is Born.' The SteelBook's disc and digital contents are identical to those found in the wide release packaging. For more on the SteelBook's look and feel, see the 'Special Features and Extras' section below.

A Star Is Born 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.5 of 5

A SteelBook star is born with this handsomely minimalist presentation. The cover art features a black background, broken up by a gray-dominant guitar, vertically aligned. Inside the body is a depiction of Jack and Ally singing intimately together during a show. The guitar's neck quickly fades but does not disappear and gives way to the film's title in large gold letters. Star names Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga appear to the left of the word "Is" in smaller and less dramatic lettering. The rear side carries over the same predominantly black coloring. A single star appears in the middle with a microphone center and a crowd gathered below it, awaiting either Jack or Ally, or both. The spine again features the film's title in the same gold coloring, center, and a Warner Brothers logo appears at the bottom. The case will show some light fingerprinting under normal light and more pronounced in brighter light.

Inside, the digital copy code is situated underneath the left-hand side tabs. The two discs, one Blu-ray and one UHD, are housed on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that depicts Jack and Ally, primarily on the left-hand side, working on a song; he's sitting and playing the guitar, she is lying down on her stomach and penning lyrics in her notebook. On the right, the scene continues with a concert stage dominating the panel. A billing block appears bottom left.

A Star Is Born 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

What a handsome SteelBook. This one checks off all the marks: minimalist but attractive, doesn't fingerprint to excess, the inner panel image is excellent with the primary part of the image visible even with the discs inside, and the on-disc content is wonderful. Very highly recommended.
