A Quiet Place Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman July 13, 2018

Paramount and Best Buy have released an exclusive SteelBook for the hit Horror film 'A Quiet Place.' The two-disc set includes the film on Blu-ray and DVD and includes a voucher for a digital copy. The SteelBook is very attractive, looks and handles great in person, but a couple of small flaws, one packaging, one content-wise, keep it from perfection. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review for more information.

So close! Paramount's SteelBook release for the fantastic Horror film A Quiet Place, which is exclusive to Best Buy, is a great release overall, but the package falls just short of absolute excellence. Firstly, there's no UHD option. Fans wanting the film in 4K will have to bypass the SteelBook or, if they have the funds lying around, buy both and drop the UHD in this package. The good news is that the UHD isn't worlds better than the Blu-ray included herein to begin with; it's a release that is the definition of "refinement, not revelation" and those who "settle" for the Blu-ray are, in this case, not missing out on much.

The SteelBook proper is very nice. It's made of a slick and smooth material that does pick up fingerprints, as can be seen in some of the included photographs. The front cover could stand to lose the actor names appearing across the top, but the red-tinted image featuring a frightened Evelyn is very effective. The title is emblazoned in rather large, blocky letter across the front, broken up by three alien claw marks that are partially debossed. It's awesome work that effectively sells the movie. The spine is a more simple black with red title lettering in the middle, the Paramount logo up top, and the Blu-ray logo down at the bottom.

The release ships with a basic J-card with "Blu-ray+DVD+digital" appearing at the front. The top features the film's title in white and red while the back element reproduces the Blu-ray's images and text. Behind the card, on the SteelBook rear side is a distant vertically oriented vista of the farm house and surrounding area that play a prominent role in the movie. The red tint remains, and the words "If they hear you they hunt you" appear in dominant fashion, with the words "hear" and hunt" in red and the remainder in white. Inside, the Blu-ray and DVD discs share the right-hand side in a staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is very basic, revealing more alien claw scratches running across the length of the SteelBook. The UV/iTunes digital copy flyer is also inside.

The flat stock image above does not do this SteelBook justice. It looks (and feels) much better in person.

A Quiet Place Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

A Quiet Place's SteelBook makes a loud first impression. The debossing work is impressive and the blood red hue is a standout. The cast listing at the top and a fairly bland inner print, not to mention the absence of a UHD disc, are the downsides, but collectors will certainly want to make an investment in this otherwise highly quality SteelBook that also houses one of the best movies of the year. Highly recommended.
