12 Monkeys Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman October 28, 2021
Kind of like a time traveler repeatedly revisiting an era to get things right, 12 Monkeys has received a number of releases on Blu-ray, with
many appreciators of this Terry Gilliam outing thinking that Arrow got it pretty much right with their initial release. This
steelbook edition from Arrow offers deluxe packaging as one of its chief allures. The disc is identical to the wide release of 12 Monkeys that Arrow put out several years ago. More information on the look and
feel of the steelbook can be found in the Special Features section, below.

For my thoughts on the film, please see our

On disc supplements are detailed in the above linked review and you can see a printed list of them on screenshot 6 accompanying this review, which is
of the slipback which is taped over the steelbook (but which is easily removable). The steelbook offers an arresting image of a shrouded hazmat suit
(and viewers of the film will know what that means. Though this was released a few months ago, Arrow just got a copy to me recently, and
in a way it's appropriately Halloween-like, with an emphasis on oranges and blacks. There's an interesting reflective quality to the visor on the hazmat
suit if you tip the steelbook to catch the light appropriately. The inside offers an almost abstract black and white image of an apocalyptic cityscape (and
viewers of the film will know what that means. I'm upping the 4.0 score for the supplements that I gave to the wide release to 4.5 for this
release, since I know many collectors of steelbooks consider the packaging itself to be a supplement.
12 Monkeys Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

I was generally very well pleased with Arrow's first wide release of 12 Monkeys, but for those of you who didn't pick up that version and
especially for those who love steelbooks, this would seem to be a no brainer, though be careful about not having a brain, you could wind up in a frenetic
mental institution (and viewers of the film will know what that means). Highly recommended.
