One of the best sequels ever. Seldom are sequels made that flow so beautifully from the original that they seem to have been conceived at once. The characters have aged but they have not changed much, and the story resumes where it left off - not in time necessarily, but in the plot. I don't think you should watch it as a standalone film. Definitely watch the first one first.

For Brits of a certain age, the first "Trainspotting" movie defines the summer of 1996. Along with an incredible soundtrack (the CD was a massive hit, as was the film itself) the tale of heroin addicts struggling to survive and thrive in Edinburgh -- unlikely heroes if ever there were any -- influenced an entire generation. The characters became much-beloved, and although writer Irvine Welsh (author of the novel on which the film was based) wrote a sequel ("Porno") we had to wait for 20 years in order to follow up with their cinematic incarnations.

Was it worth the wait?

In my opinion, oh yes. Screenwriter John Hodge has taken a few aspects of "Porno" and crafted them into a worthy sequel. Renton, Sick Boy (now "Simon"), Spud, and the psychopathic Begbie are all back, and it feels great to see them again. For fans of the original, watching "T2:Trainspotting" really is like catching up with old friends. Without spoiling the movie's plot, our four protagonists (plus some of the other characters from the first film) are back, and on a collision course with one another that can only end violently. Having ripped off Sick Boy and Begbie at the end of the first film, Ewan McGregor's Renton is back from Amsterdam and ready to fall back in with his old crowd. At the same time, Begbie escapes from prison, and when he learns that Renton is back in town, sets out for vengeance. Waiting for the characters to fulfill their story arcs will keep you on the edge of your seat. Accompanied by a thumping good soundtrack (though not quite the classic that the first movie's soundtrack was) "T2:Trainspotting" is a rollicking good time for fans of the original. In terms of the Blu-Ray release, sound and picture quality are great. The extras are a little bare-bones, with only a 30-minute "conversation with the actors/director" and commentary track in addition to the movie; it would be nice to see a fully-loaded edition somewhere further down the line. That's a minor quibble, though, and if you remember "Trainspotting" fondly, this one is well worth picking up, throwing in the Blu-Ray player, and catching up with the lovable scumbags.

I was flummoxed when I heard they were doing a sequel to "Trainspotting". Why would anybody want to follow into middle age the exploits of Scottish drug addicts? With a witty and incisive script by John Hodge the film takes the characters introduced in the novel by Irvine Welsh to their logical progression, or regression if you will. While Spud (Ewen Bremner) still struggles with heroin addiction the others have pretty much kicked the habit though Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) has traded up to cocaine. Returning to Edinburgh from Amsterdam after stealing money from his mates twenty years ago Renton (Ewan McGregor) has lived a fairly meaningless existence having been recently sacked and in the process of divorce. Begbie (Robert Carlyle) not surprisingly is doing a stretch in prison. These desolate souls don't have much but they have each other. Their dreams consist of opening a brothel not so much for running it but stealing the seed money put up by the venture capitalists who are bankrolling it. The lads soldier on, though, led by Renton's mantra of choose life. If you haven't seen the predecessor it is helpful but not a must. Director Danny Boyle provides flashbacks to the first film and the characters consistently reference their past. I consider this film not so much a sequel but a revisiting. It is one of the better followups to a successful film I've ever seen. Like director Michael Apted's "Up" series it would be interesting to see what happens to these guys when they become pensioners. Kelly Macdonald, reprising the role of Diane, is now a lawyer defending Sick Boy on a blackmail charge. Heavy Scots accents at times may be an impediment to your enjoyment of flick.

T2 es una película más de comedia con ligeros toques de acción a diferencia de su predecesora que era una película mucho más cruda y con más drama aunque con su correspondiente dosis de humor incómodo. Si eres fan de la primera parte definitivamente tienes que tener la segunda.
