Product Description

In this bittersweet comedy, aspiring writers Albert (Ryan O'Neal) and Lucy (Shelley Long) meet on a rainy night and fall head-over-heels for each other. Happily married with a beautiful little daughter, their simple life starts crumbling down as Albert's career in Hollywood prospers and he falls in love with his leading actress (Sharon Stone). Growing up and seeing her loving parents go from love to hate, nine-year old Casey (Drew Barrymore) has had enough and is tired of being emotionally and physically ignored by her parents - she hires a lawyer (Allen Garfield) and tries to divorce them on Irreconcilable Differences grounds. Written by Nancy Meyers (Private Benjamin) and Charles Shyer (Father of the Bride) and directed by Shyer, his directorial debut.

    My favorite Shelley Long movie! Finally able to get a good, clear version of this great film. Funny story, as a teenager I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Shelley after a taping of Cheers. It was a couple years after this movie came out. I was allowed to briefly go behind the set and meet her. She was sitting back smoking a cigarette and I was all embarrased and told her how good this film was. It came out all awkward, of course. But she was nice enough to even let me go back and meet her. I'll always love Shelley Long. Shelley if you remember me, call me!!

    I love this film .It shows what it is like when adults divorce and still fight after the divorce is final. In this film the child wants nothing to do with her parents because the parents are so self involved that she suffers. A story the rang true in 1984 that still rings true in 2013. Nobody in this film gives a false performance. I was waiting for years for a DVD release and when it came out I was so disappointed and here is why..

    THE MGM DVD release was terrible. They used the same transfer as the original VHS release. In fact the MGM was so cheap to make a new transfer that the old VESTRON LOGO WAS INCLUDED on this release. The original Vestron transfer was made in 1985! (Vestron also has not been around since 1991)! So on the DVD the picture was fuzzy and had a washed out look to it.

    Also the talent behind the camera is amazing. This film also has a brilliant comedic performance by Sharon Stone. It was one of her first roles. In fact I became a fan of hers because of this film. I also have the poster of this film hanging on my wall.

    I think all divorced parents should watch this with their children. (Just Cover their eyes because there is a brief topless scene)

    I can not say enough good things about this film.....

    I'm not gonna say much about this great, albeit obscure film. It's obvious to me that if you're searching for this, then you already know what a cute, funny awesome 80s flick this is. What I do want to say is that this Special Edition sold by Paint It Orange, has great clarity and is not at all grainy, nor does it have black outs. There's another version of this DVD sold out there for a few years now, that many have complained about, this one is DIFFERENT! Now do keep in mind, it was made in 1984 and it looks like it was made in 1984, and sometimes there is a "chapter" closing where the screen goes momentarily black, that is not a "black-out", but a pause to let you know the movie is transitioning on to a different era in their lives. All in all, I am SO HAPPY I got this all-time fave of mine.
