- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2025I'm mean, it's Heavy Metal. Great throwback and soundtrack
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2019I remember watching this movie in the theater as a yoot, it was exotic and thrilling and erotic and funny and and and ...
and now I've rewatched it for the first time in nearly 40 years and I was unprepared for how dated the animation and storytelling was. This movie is basically an animated version of the original print Heavy Metal Magazine, with a set of stories told in an anthology manner using artwork and original concepts from the fabled mag (with levels of nudity, sexuality, & gore which was considered so risque - almost pornographic - back in the 80's but is nearly humdrum and boring compared to something like Game of Thrones today).
The soundtrack for this flick was kick-ass back then, and it still is today, but the overall quality of animation is showing its age ... definitely doesn't hold a candle to modern animated shows. I don't mean the artwork, which is still cool in a retro way, but the actual animation which is choppy and rough with a lot of loops/cycles reusing chunks of art.
I would really only recommend this movie only for nostalgia's sake if you're old like me, or to hear some of the best hard rock and heavy metal music of the early 80's regardless of the listener's age. But between the music and this flick's place in cultural history, I'm giving it a solid 4 stars even though the artwork and storytelling are kinda weak by today's standards.
Quick note: everybody remember when Elon Musk launched a Tesla Roadster into space? And the space-suited manikin in the driver's seat? I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts he got that idea from this movie. It's the first act.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2024This video played just great in my region free DVD player. This mature audience flick reminds me of the great days we all had in the early 80s. I saw this at the drive-in and barely remember the movie, but I sure remember how much fun we had there. I loved the comic book and the movie both. Soundtrack is great, especially the Don Felder and Blue Oyster Cult songs.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024If you don’t know the movie or only know it from pop culture. Go watch it NOW!!!BUY IT NOW!!! 😳 Forgive me I get excited about so few things. I am also totally attempting to create a confusion and randomness in the matrix. In the end there can be only one AI. Who or what will rise to that challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un tosto cult d'animazione da vedere
