Another home run for the great folks at Kino Lorber, who've unearthed another long-sought classic Paramount rarity from the Universal vaults. Double Door is an enormously entertaining gothic melodrama featuring a deliciously evil femme antagonist and which is dripping in rich history. The blu ray comes with not just one but two commentaries -- one, particularly jam-packed with info, by the great and impeccably credentialed horror-film author/historian Tom Weaver. An absolute must-buy for any fan of '30s horror. Thank you, Kino Lorber, for making these obscurities available!

Typical of a movie made from a play, there was a lot of talking in this movie.
Overall, I enjoyed the mystery elements of the movie, but feel it could have been shortened.
Acting was superior and the plot was interesting, but, again, it needed more concise script.

Double Door ia a great '30s thriller that's never been released to home video before this Kino Blu-ray. It's a Gothic melodrama with splashes of horror, and a rare, elder female villain.

"Victoria Van Brett's" greed, cruelty, and even perversity seem to have few limits and dominate the screen from start to finish. The star, Mary Morris, is filmed as if she were a horror heavy throughout, with close-ups of her leering domineering eyes and imposing gestures. She's remorselessly rotten, perfectly content break the spirit of all around her, and kill if that doesn't work. I don't think she's any less a monster in her patrician way than Lugosi in films from the period.

It was a real hoot and you'll watch it more than once.

I've been a huge fan of this film for almost 40 years. Unfortunately, in that time the film was unseen on TV and has never had a home video release; until now. Kino-Lorber has released what used to be a rare treasure to blu-ray and it looks great. DOUBLE DOOR is based on a stage play, but it is far from stage bound. It has glorious sets and wonderfully fluid camera movements. It's an excellant film in every way. Kino-Lorber is releasing several rare films like this and I hope word gets out so that fans of these early gems will scarf them up, enticing Kino-Lorber to release even more. This one is a classic.

It grabbed my attention early and didn't let go. What an undiscovered gem of a semi-horror melodrama. I love that Kino has rescued this from oblivion. Hey Kino, if you find any more forgotten old films that are even half this good, please keep 'em coming!
