I've heard about this project for awhile and was happy to finally have a chance to view it. Showgirls is similar to The Room in where it's so bad, it's actually good. Little did I know that there was this cult audience behind the glitz and glamour. Hearing interviews from the cast and crew, film critics and other filmmakers just brings a better understanding behind the reasoning for this enjoyment of such a terrible film. I highly recommend that anyone, whether you liked Showgirls or not, watch this brilliant documentary.

love Showgirls, and this is a smart, well-rounded look at the actual film, its impact, what it has inspired in creative artists, and how it has mesmerized loyal fans for 25 years. Interesting connections made to other camp films (like the Valley of the dolls, and Mommie dearest) and other characters and actresses. New compassion for what Elizabeth Berkley had to endure after making this film. Overall, great doc!

ii have mostly liked the director's pics made in holland and many made in america such as robocop and starship troopers. i got an impression of him having a sense of humor, of satire, both of which seemed lacking in the pic showgirls. along with clips from the movie it has interviews. there is an older book called bad movies we love which points out that with pics such as valley of the dolls they are doing their best and don't realize it is bad. after seeing this you see that they took it seriously. i like making of articles and documentaries and rented this as soon as i heard of it. i found it informative and worth the money. have never been to vegas so maybe the big show was not as funny as it seemed to me. but it made me think of the pic and sometimes go hmmm. but sorry i still find it a bad joke.

If you like showgirls, this is the movie for you

This wasn't a bad documentary, but I wanted so much more from it. I wanted more face interviews, especially from the actors involved. This was a movie version of a clip show with a lot of voice-overs. While it was entertaining, it was missing a lot of meat on its bones.

Not only does this make you reconsider the merits of Showgirls, but also the fanbase that's supported it all these years. I found it truly moving. Give this one a shot. Even if you didn't like Showgirls this is still worthy of your time. It goes in depth how art needs some incubation time before it can be judged properly.

This is a smart and fascinating documentary about the lasting legacy of Paul Verhoeven's seemingly under-rated and maligned film Showgirls. It is cleverly made and draws parallels to Verhoeven's other (more accepted) movies in style similar to Room 237 or Beyond Clueless. A must-see for anyone interested in filmmaking, satire, camp aesthetic or dining on doggy chow.

I've said for years that Showgirls was marketed wrong and actually the story is even more relevant today. If you are a fan like I am it's worth a watch
