Product Description

Almost a decade after Lucky McKee burst upon the indie horror scene and became a ‘Master of Horror’ in the making thanks to his directorial debut May, he teamed up with legendary cult author Jack Ketchum for his most shocking and brutal film to date: The Woman, an instant cause célèbre on its Sundance premiere.

The Woman (Pollyanna McIntosh, The Walking Dead) is the last surviving member of a deadly clan of feral cannibals that has roamed the American wilderness for decades. When successful country lawyer Chris Cleek (Sean Bridgers, Room) stumbles upon her whilst hunting in the woods, he decides to capture and “civilize” her with the help of his seemingly perfect all-American family, including his wife Belle (Angela Bettis, May) and daughter Peggy (Lauren Ashley Carter, Darling). The Cleeks will soon learn, however, that hell hath no fury like The Woman scorned…

Experience McKee and Ketchum’s uncompromisingly twisted vision of the dark side of the American family in a definitive new edition, including a 4K remaster and brand new bonus features.

If you like a disturbing horror film, this is it. I like film makers that don't mind pushing the envelope. Pick the envelope up and cut it's watchers with it. That's what Willis is talkin' bout.

McGhee is showing skill in this second film in a “feminist” trilogy. It’s not overtly feminist (Lucky was up for the opportunity after making the epic movie “May,” but the subject matter challenges a lot of social mores and taboos. The first movie in the trilogy “The Offspring” Is great, but heightened from this movie. Looking forward to the next movie, directed by Pollyanna herself.

This movie is filled with so many twists and unexpected turns which keeps you on the edge of your seat that you don't want to miss a moment. It truly highlights the different envirerments women are faced with.

This is based on the book of the same title by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee. Both the book and the movie are a sequel to Offspring (also originally a book by Ketchum and adapted to the screen by McKee). You don't necessarily need to have read or seen Offspring to make sense of this one, though if you've done so it will add to the story's depth. What's interesting, though, is that this is an entirely different kind of horror story than its predecessor.

Offspring is a story of a band of feral cannibals terrorizing the residents of a small town. The Woman, though a direct sequel, is much more the story of "civilized" people terrorizing one of those feral people. Whether you take it as social commentary or just a different take on the story, this reversal unquestionably makes for interesting watching.

Also somewhat surprising is that the tone of the stories is very different. Offspring is an all-out assault on the senses, while The Woman is a much slower film, but arguably even more horrifying because its violence is almost clinical rather than barbaric. If you're a Jack Ketchum fan, you might conceptualize this as the love child of Offspring and The Girl Next Door.

However you want to think about it, you owe it to yourself to watch it. I do recommend seeing Offspring first, though it's not strictly necessary, to appreciate the full effect of the sequel's altered tone.

The film is definitely interesting. I suspect everyone will walk away from it with their own reading, but there are some strong messages being put across. Worth a watch!
