Product Description

After their car breaks down, a group of travelers find themselves stranded in a remote part of New England. After taking shelter in a spooky old mansion, complete with a graveyard, they discover a ouija board and decide to spend the night attempting to summon some spirits. But the group soon learns that playing with the forces of black magic isn't fun and games, and it's not long before they're head-to-head with all sorts of demonic creatures, shape shifters, and other forms of evil, all of whom are more than happy to pick them off in the most gruesome of ways. Of all of the bizarre horror films made in the 1980s, SPOOKIES easily ranks among the weirdest. Produced by Michael Lee, founder of the adored UK home video distributor VIPCO, the film became a fan favorite thanks to it's expertly rendered creature effects and notorious for it's bizarre production history in which it's original creators, co-writers/directors Brendan Faulkner & Thomas Doran and co-writer/producer Frank M. Farel, were fired and replaced by Eugenie Joseph, who added new scenes and re-edited the previously shot footage, resulting in the legendary oddity SPOOKIES has become. Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings SPOOKIES to Blu-ray for the first time, newly restored in 4K from it's long lost original negative and including a brand new, feature-length 'making of' documentary, charting it's incredible and often unbelievable production history.

Looks terrific!
Wonderful transfer by vinegar syndrome. Was shocked how good it looked. It’s probably better than Spookies deserves lol. Fun features. Great feature length documentary, and interesting interview with producer are highlights. Was shipped fast and packed safely.

Back in the early 90's when I was a kid, I'd stay up watching "USA Up All Night", with Gilbert Godfried or Rhonda Shear hosting it, think they took turns or something. Anyway, I'd seen this movie on their program one night, never catching the name of it. All I remembered was it's Phantasm-like atmosphere (my favorite horror movie of all time). This bothered me for years until finally in 2016, I somehow ran into it going down some obscure horror movie rabbit hole (thank you IMDB!). A friend managed to get me a bootleg copy and this movie was as fun and campy as I remembered it. This bluray brought things to a whole other level though. I never thought I'd see this movie or anything about it ever again, let alone see it in high definition. I'm actually shocked a source of this movie still existed that was good enough to produce something of this quality, and I'm quite satisfied with my purchase.

I challenge anyone not to laugh at that part where that possessed woman smacks that guy on the head with the ouiji board. If you want a good popcorn horror/comedy retro flick, I can pretty much guarantee you'll love this.

This is a classic horror movie. I have it on in the background all the time. Super cheesey in the best way possible.

I saw this back in the 80's and I thought it was a waste of film but over the years I've grown up appreciating these campy horror movies. The transfer to Blu-ray is okay and the audio is fine as well. The story is odd the acting is over dramatic. The make up and special effects are horrible but that's the charm. There angst and some comedic moments and some confusion but all in all standard fair for a B Horror movie. I am happy to have this title in my collection of B Movies!

Nicely restored with lots of extras. I think I paid too much for this dose of campy horror from the past. Lots of extras. While watching this I kept thinking of the TV ad where the teenagers say "Let's hide behind the chainsaws". I suppose there is wisdom when you are being killed off in splitting up and walking around a big dark house. I suppose. Effects were not bad for the time period.

This is an amazing looking restoration of a fun 80s horror flick with a convoluted production history. The documentary material is top notch and may be the best part of this purchase. This is a must buy.

The Vinegar Syndrome release of this 80s cult classic is everything this movie deserves, and more! The picture looks fantastic and tree social features are great and give an insight into how this movie ever even ended up seeing the light of day. A film that a lot of kids, myself included, grew up watching on VHS back in the day. The story is crazy, dis-jointed and a little stupid. But the pretty decent effects work and gore make up for it. Well worth a watch if you're an 80s horror fan, just make sure you having a few beers as well, it makes the movie more fun!
