Product Description

Golden Time Complete Collection contains episodes 1-24 of the anime directed by Chiaki Kon and includes a brand new English dub. Getting lost wasn't how Tada Banri wanted to start his first day of law school, but making a friend of fellow student Mitsuo along the way sort of made up for it until Mitsuo's childhood friend and arranged future bride Kaga Koko appears and slaps Mitsuo with a bouquet of roses! Awkward. It's even more awkward to learn that Koko's now a fellow law student as well. However, "Awkward" is practically Banri's middle name, as he's suffering from a form of amnesia that's erased most of his memory since high school and he's becoming used to running into uncomfortable situations caused by actions he doesn't remember. Join one of the most star-crossed group of friends ever as they attempt to make sense of life, love and the legal system! Special Features: Clean Opening Animation, Clean Closing Animation.

This product comes with 3 Blu Ray discs, containing 24 episodes. Available in dubbed and subbed. Subbed in English.
I recommend to any anime consumer to purchase a physical copy of any and all anime franchises you enjoy. All western anime distributors deal with limited-licensing issues which makes future access to any one particular anime via digital media, problematic.

Our recovering protagonist finds the start of his new college life entangled in the romantic affairs of his new friend’s stalker, a high maintenance city girl beauty. This new friend wants nothing more than to part ways with his stalker beauty, but she has plans. Plans so well laid out that there is no room for debate. She will get her man no matter his objections.
Sympathizing in the plight of the obsessive city girl’s lonely efforts to capture her guy, our protagonist finds himself vying for the beauty’s unanswered affections. Taking on the handling of an extremely clingy high maintenance beauty is a boon to his new friend and the protagonist couldn’t be happier having someone to love.
However, there is only so much room in our protagonist’s heart when it starts filling up with memories of an unfortunate past.

This is one of those animes that will leave you with “the feels” if you let it. Its not a love triangle so much as a weirdly shaped octagon of some kind. That guy likes that girl, that girl likes that other guy, but she likes him and he hates her, but…
It’s a complicated romance but is easily digestible if you watch it entirely. And it begs the question: are you still you even if you don’t remember who you are?
From the art style to the storytelling, it’s a really engaging anime for this genre. The voice acting talent from both the English and Japanese cast are superb in their various emotional deliveries. These types of storytelling are becoming a rarity in anime. This is an excellent addition for my collection to scratch a drama itch I get for characters.

I love this anime and it’s my number 1 favorite of all time.

Golden Time is a very good, almost great romcom, that fans of the genre will definitely enjoy.
Especially if you like a good dose of drama and heavy issues in your romcoms.

It stands out in three ways from run-of-the-mill romcoms:

    1. It's set in college rather than high school or middle school. That is often a sign of a more thoughtful, less formulaic romcom scenario -- Honey & Clover for example -- and it's true of Golden Time too.

    2. The characters are all intelligent and proactive; no time and energy is wasted on obtuseness and contrived misunderstandings. Instead they confront genuine personal and relational challenges. (A good recent example of this is Boarding School Juliet.)

    3. The male lead, Banri Tada, is a survivor of severe head trauma that robbed him of his memories. He is basically starting life over with a new, unformed identity at age 19. Probably it's been done before somewhere, but the amnesia angle was new and fresh to me at least. It's not used in a gimmicky Rumiko Takahashi-ish way, it's a serious plot dynamic.

Keeping these three things in mind, the story revolves around Banri's evolving relationship with the female lead, Kouko Kaga, who he meets on the first day of his freshman year. She gets off to a VERY unlikeable start and some people may be put off by it; you have to power through her terrible behavior in the first couple of episodes, but it's worth it. Unlike typical tsundere garbage anime, Kouko actually encounters consequences for her behavior, and therefore has to change and grow.

The constellation of friends and romantic interests around these two are all very full and rich characters in themselves, even the "fifth wheel" otaku-esque 2D-kun, and the group dynamics among them are a highlight of the show. Although overall Golden Time is not at the level of ToraDora overall, the bonds-of-friendship aspect is even more masterful here.

All of these characters really develop, and that is what drives the show. All the while, due to Banri's condition, heavy issues of mental health, identity, self-worth, and acceptance are chugging along, and revving into higher and higher gear, as the series comes to its climax.

I didn't love everything about how the conclusion was handled, but it's ultimately satisfying. This is not one of those anime that will leave you hanging or feeling jobbed. It will definitely put you through the feels wringer at many points along the way.

Also worth noting is this series is 100% clean. There is absolutely no nudity, fan service, or gratuitous anything. It must set some kind of record for the most chaste beach episode in anime history. Okay, there is a very, very tame and comical speedo joke in the beach (and costume party) episode, but that's it. It is always nice to find an anime that doesn't pander.

Product arrive with no defects. As for the show, it's a heartfelt love story, with twist and comedy. One of my favorite. Menu is clunky and plays English dub by default: I couldn't change audio within the show with my remote had to exit and return to menu screen. That's about it.

I loved this anime with a really enjoyable story and likeable characters and the 24 episode length allowed the story to develop nicely over time instead of a rush you tend to get in 12 episode shows.
On a side note this works in region B regions, I'm from the UK and it works on my xbox

It's a nice change to see anime characters pass the high school life for once. This was a great rom-com show and makes for a great re-watch. Wish there was a dub, but this will still get you through.
