Product Description
In between his cult hit debut ACCIÓN MUTANTE and proudly depraved PERDITA DURANGO, writer/director Álex de la Iglesia delivered the international smash that remains one of the best horror comedies of our time: When a rogue priest (Álex Angulo of PAN'S LABYRINTH) discovers the exact date The Antichrist will be born, he'll enlist a Death Metal record store clerk (Santiago Segura of KILLER BARBYS) and a cheesy TV psychic (Armando de Razza) for an urban spree of "gore, sacrilege and twisted humor" (San Francisco Examiner) to prevent the Apocalypse by summoning Satan himself. Terele Pávez (800 BULLETS) co-stars in this "classic of modern Spanish cinema" (Screen Anarchy) - winner of 6 Goya Awards including Best Director - now restored in 4k from the original negative and loaded with all-new Special Features.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2021Perhaps THE Most Under-Appreciated Comedy / Horror / Religious film OF ALL TIME!
I saw this many years ago at a Lincoln Center Art House in NYC and was blown over! Have waited many years for a good copy. Well, here it is!
Now, if only they'd release "Tati Danielle" on dvd, I could retire to an abandoned island.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2022This hilarious full throttle action black comedy swept the Goya awards. Too bad they had to kill off José María (Segura). Absolutely highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2021This was a blind buy for me. The movie is very nice. However I enjoyed the first half more than the second but the movie is very entertaining with lots of lol moments. A dark comedy. The 4k transfer is amazing. I suggest this movie to anyone looking forward to see something new and different.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2021Great movie. So funny.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024Love this movie, never saw it in English. Great film right up my alley. The druggie in the record shop also starred in the "torrente" movies, comedy series of films where he's a drug using, racist, misogynistic ex cop. Frigging hilarious

- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2021I’ve never seen a movie quite like this, in any genre, let-alone horror. Director/co-writer Álex de la Iglesia could have easily taken his premise down a familiar path and would still have a decent film on his hands. He displays a unique visual style that’s both gritty and surreal. Additionally, he’s a good screenwriter and coaxes better performances from his cast than most films or this type usually get (or deserve).
However, The Day of the Beast also happens to be very funny. Some of the humor stems from Iglesia’s sheer audacity, uninhibited by the genre’s unwritten rules or the boundaries of good taste. For the most part, he’s willing to step right up to the line of common decency without really crossing it (though personally, I could have done without the rabbit scene). But in addition to the gonzo violence and pitch-black humor, there’s a bevy of hilarious dialogue and absurd comedy that sometimes approaches the level of farce (without ever turning stupid). What makes the film such sick fun is how seamlessly Iglesia brings these elements together.
Fast-moving, ferociously-violent and often hilarious, The Day of the Beast ain’t for everybody, but it’s easy to see why it has a fervent cult following. For newcomers like myself, the film is a great discovery and I look forward to checking-out some of Álex de la Iglesia’s other work. Severin Films has put together a great home video release that fans will surely get a kick out of. In addition to a decent transfer, the disc is loaded with interesting bonus features, the best being a feature-length documentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB
I saw this film at the TIFF way back when it was released. I owned the Spanish special edition dvd and until now I have not seen a better presentation of this absolutely incredible film. 9/10 4K presentation, clean deep blacks, supreb contrast and sound separation, this is a stellar disc by Severin and I have immediately purchased their Santa Sangre 4K release based on the quality of this presentation. Just amazing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Edición UHD 4K USA
