The Quick and the Dead

Sharon Stone in the Quick and the Dead
Sharon Stone stars as a female gunslinger out for revenge in this Sergio Leone-inspired western directed by Sam Raimi. The mysterious, one-named Ellen arrives in the lawless town of Redemption looking for John Herod (Gene Hackman), the undisputed ruler of the town and the fastest gun around. Herod, along with 15 others, has entered the annual quick-draw contest that he perpetuates in order to thin the ranks of his opponents. Ellen is concerned far less about the money than her revenge. Now, all she has to do is bide her time and eliminate a few unsavory opponents along the way to a confrontation with Herod. Russell Crowe co-stars as a former gunman turned priest, with Leonardo DiCaprio as The Kid who may or may not be Herod's son.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025In some ways, this is a typical Western with villains and heroes. This one moves along well and keeps a pretty good pace throughout. Plenty of Star power in this, and each one contributes to the story. Worth the cost of a bucket of popcorn.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2025I didn’t choose this series but someone else in our extended family did. It is to dark themed for me so the 3 stars is only because of my personal opinion. Sorry guys, just not up my alley.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Western
The film "The Quick and the Dead" is a masterpiece with Sharon Stone and the late great Gene Hackman. A great film with a superb supporting cast. A must for the lovers of westerns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wird nie langweilig
