Product Description

It has been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night—the 12 hours of lawlessness. This year, the annual ritual comes at the eve of a heated presidential election with the nation deeply divided between those who are pro- and anti-Purge. As head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), Leo's mission is to protect her during her controversial and contested run for president. However, when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of Washington, D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

    Another year, another Purge. This time, with a twist. Based on the current political climate, "The Purge: Election Year" was pretty good. The story follows Charlie Roan, who, as a child, was tortured and forced to watch her family get murdered by a Purger. Fast forward 18 years later, and Charlie is a U.S. Senator running for President in efforts to end the Purge once and for all. Her opponent, is part of the political elite that wants to keep the Purge going strong. In essence, the Purge is a way to kill off the poor and make the rich richer. Enter in Leo (Frank Grillo from "The Purge: Anarchy") who is Charlie's lead security. He's tasked with keeping her safe and alive to survive Purge night. Murder, mayhem, and chaos ensues.

    There were some really great scenes here, and some that seemed unnecessary. I was extremely disappointed in the fact that despite some of the characters on the cover have incredibly cool costumes, they are seen for only a very, very brief period. At least with "Anarchy," the villians on the cover were more prominent and served a role in the film. The "Uncle Sam" and "Lady Liberty" characters are really one-offs, which is a shame.

    Is is better than "Anarchy?" No. Better than the original? Yes.

    i am a huge fan of the purge movie franchise and this one fell flat for me. i think the audience is smart enough to know how inherently political a purge would be and how it would be racially charged. this seems to hit you over the head with the theme.

    Nachdem ich die ersten beiden, eher durchschnittlichen Teile angeschaut habe, habe ich mir nun auch diesen Teil angeschaut.

    Thema ist klar, jeder darf 12 Std lang alles tun (auch, bzw hauptsächlich Mord) und wird nicht bestraft.

    Zum Film:
    Wie auch im 2. Teil spielt sich dieser Teil wieder in einer Stadt ab aber im Gegensatz zu den Vorgängern hat dieser Teil in Sachen Geschichte mehr Tiefgang.
    Wieder versucht eine zufällig zusammengewürfelte Gruppe die Purgenacht zu überleben. Warum diese Gruppe zusammengefunden hat und was sie zusammenhält steht in der Beschreibung und ich will ja auch nicht spoilern.

    Also rein von der Gesichte her setzt sich dieser Teil deutlich von den Vorgängern ab, die schauspielerische Leistung ist allerdings noch immer nicht "das Gelbe vom Ei" und die jeweiligen Vorkommnisse lassen sich noch immer mindestens 5 Minuten im Vorraus erahnen.
    Allerdings lassen einige Szenen einem geistig gesunden Menschen schon nen kalten Schauer über den Rücken laufen.
    Trotzdem ist dies der beste Teil der Triologie denn der Tiefgang der Geschichte und die angesprochenen einzelnen Szenen wirft/werfen folgende Frage auf:
    Ist so eine "Säuberung" sinnvoll, wenn ja, warum(?) und wie würde man selbst die Purgenacht verbringen?
    Würde man wahllos und brutal mordend durch die Straßen wüten (also seine Seele reinigen und das "innere Biest" rauslassen), würde man, wie ein Bekannter es machen würde, 12 Std am PC sitzen und illegal Filme runterladen oder würde man sich zu Hause einschließen, unterm Bett verkriechen und einfach hoffen das man das alles überlebt?
    Ich denke, wenn man sich nach diesem Teil diese Frage stellt, dann wird man viel über sich und seine Persönlichkeit lernen können.

    Fazit: wie gesagt, "the Purge: Election Year" ist (mit einigen Abstrichen) der beste Teil der Triologie und obwohl er schauspielerisch eher B-Movie Format hat regt er doch zum Nachdenken an.
    Um ihn zu verstehen kann man die beiden Vorgänger anschauen, man muss aber nicht unbedingt.
