Some Outlander Trivia

Sky Boat Song:

The song playing in the opening credits uses the melody of the Skye Boat Song, a song that describes the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Uist to Skye after his defeat in the Battle of Culloden. Composer Bear McCreary adapted Robert Louis Stevenson's poem Sing Me A Song of Lad that is Gone to fit with Claire's time traveling journey.

Doune Castle

Doune Castle was used as Castle Leoch. The castle is famous for being featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It was also used as Winterfell in Game of Thrones. The castle is located in the village of Doune, near Stirling.

Product Description

Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of Jamie’s cousin, they are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship – but, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.

Outlander is so good it will become part of my permanent collection
The entire production crew of Outlander has created an amazing interpretation of Diana Gabaldon's book series. Translating books to screen often leaves me uninspired but not with this one. Season 2 covers book 2, Dragonfly in Amber. The writers altered the story line a bit to present in one season, but the overall vision is true to the book. Sets and scenes immerse the viewer in time and place. Versailles is opulent and decadent revealing the excesses and depravities that eventually led to the French revolution. Costumes created by Terry Dresbach and her crew are well researched and historically accurate interpretations. See her website:[...] for more details. Direction and actors create complex and genuine characters. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe bring Jamie and Claire alive. As a fan of Diana Gabaldon's books for over 15 years, it was well worth the wait and I look forward to even greater success as the series progresses.

I did not watch the second half of Season 1, mainly out of protest due to the violence and scenes I didn't care to have burned into my psyche. It was a personal choice, and I have not regretted that decision.

I don't have Starz on cable, but I have added the Starz subscription to my Amazon account to get back on the ship sailing for France. Perhaps, out of ignorance of not reading the entire series (except for book one), I have no idea what lies ahead. Bravely, I decided to pick up the story, which hopefully is a little less violent in nature. Please warn me if there is something ahead. I just don't have the time to read books when I'm busy writing them.

Jamie and Claire have arrived in France, fleeing the horrid past I failed to watch. Of course, Claire has her agenda immediately after their arrival, in spite of the fact that Jamie is recovering from ghastly abuse at the hands of Randall.

However, the story doesn’t begin there. Claire is found lying on her back again having come through the portal. Dressed in her Eighteenth Century clothing, she’s returned to 1948. After being found wandering the streets by a passing car, she learns that her plan to stop the Culloden massacre has failed – those Brits won anyway. Everyone she loved and knew is dead, gone, and a pile of dusty bones buried somewhere in the land she left behind.

Mild manner Frank is elated she’s back. Claire at first only tells her journey to the vicar’s housekeeper who danced the dance in Season 1 around the mysterious stones. She is traumatized, heartbroken that she has left Jamie, and pregnant. Okay, now don’t get me wrong, but something along the time-travel continuum must have went wacky in the creative license Gabaldon took in this instance. Nevertheless, Claire is carrying Jamie’s child even after coming through the portal. After Frank discovers all the secrets of her disappearance and impending motherhood, he loses it. His violent outburst is reminiscent of his psychopathic ancestor.

After calming down, Claire and Frank come to an agreement of sorts. Claire will put the past behind. Frank will raise the child as their own. They will move to Boston and begin a new life. As Claire takes Frank’s hand coming off the plane, we are thrown into the flashback of her arrival with Jamie in France.

What can I say about Claire? Her character irks me a tad. She’s bullheaded and determined, while Jamie questions the morality of their decision to try and change the future. Of course, Claire isn’t privy to all that knowledge we have now about how changing the future can lead to disastrous results. Nowadays, we’ve read enough fiction novels, seen movies, and television shows that point out that fact. Perhaps, Stephen Hawking can chime in, too, that if it were possible to time travel, it’s not a very good idea to change the past.

After meeting the key players in France, making their first enemy (boy that was quick), viewers are off on another adventure with the Scot. Admit it — you only watch because of cute Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser. You’ve seen his naked behind making love to Claire and you want more. I get it.

So, let’s see how Outlander plays out in the future. I will admit the acting is top-notch, especially for Caitriona Balfe and Tobias Menzies in the first episode of Season 2 last night. They almost had me crying. How Tobias can switch from a maniac to a decent human being shows his wide range of talent. The costumes and scenery this season look to be stunning. Long gone is the cold castle as it appears the players will now be living in luxury.

As my wife and I share this account as we share everything (no, if I want to goof around on dating sites I tell her. To be clear its how we live I preach not to you). My name is Frank, and the 4star rating is not what in appears. At 3star anything so,rated is worth watching. 4star means it exemplary in certain areas. 5star means its transcendental. Not much of that. To me see it means I won't see something like that again. When the show like this ends it always breaks my heart. Always. Now, on with it. I am baised as my wife Elspeth ♞ is a Scottish noble her family from the time of the Robert the Bruce; since his only son died then all that was pass to the Stewards by way of this daughter. Amoung the highlanders the Bruce was much loved. Time was much, much slower then. Clocks hand no second hands. Why? One other thing, the 'act' of union was between the Scott's and English and the English paid $1 billion pounds to the Scott's as part of the deal. The Scott's blew their wad try to set up a colony in Central America. They were dead broke. Being Scott's they acted as if the England was there's. Soon enough ~ 100 years they ran everything. If James the Duce had not publicly baptisted his son Catholic, his line would still be King. So, now 'mark me' to the epic show itself, and GOD I love the actors and all those unseen, what a work of art. It is the best show to watch on any medium bare none; including game of thorns of which it shares some actors with. Sometimes Outlander, is just so hard to take emotionally, but I ask not that it be toned done at all. If you're brave enough to make it, then I will testify. Ian Shane calls Outlander 'long form tv'. I asked him about that. Never met him, just called him. I'd call lord of the rings long form too. It saying that I'm elevating lord of the rings, not to take anything anyway form it. My mother did in her day 41 feature films. And later she wrote wrote 'the blob', she say watch a movie for character setting or plot. Most you get one, great ones two, the exceptional three. Outlander is exceptional and I like the setting and setting means more then place, it means 'a feel or set of feelings, that demand you to notice, and in noticing, if human one will feel. And GOD, do,I feel. I feel love for the people that do exist giving all of them selves and it show to do the extraordinary and I feel love for those lost so, long go. And the love I feel is a yes toward life. And that will be enough to carry me through 1746, where the vileness of 'Black Jack', becomes a role model. _- please I'm dyslexic and I try and try to get the grammar right forgive me if I didn't. Very high quality of the CDs. The Outlander series is just amazing on so many levels!! The sory it's based on is absolutely engaging,
the actors are performing wonderfully, the dedication to details and authenticity in costumes and sites is commendable.
I've watched the whole series several times and each time I'd notice something new I didn't pay enough attention before.
