Product Description

From the film vaults of Eurociné—the mind-boggling company that brought you Zombie Lake, Crimson, and Orloff and the Invisible Man—comes this riotous French/Spanish co-production, originally titled La perversa caricia de Satán (“The Perverse Caresses of Satan”)! When the Countess de Moncourt (Night of the Howling Beast’s Silvia Solar) is left destitute by the suicide of her husband, she resumes her former identity as Claire Grandier—comely Goth and medium! Teaming up with Dr. Gruber (Eurociné regular Olivier Mathot), a down-on-his-luck telepath, they accept an invitation from an eccentric duke to stage a séance at his candle-lit castle, as a follow-up to a funky fashion show of hilarious “avant garde” wear. Impressed by Claire’s command of the supernatural, the duke invites her and Gruber to room at his chateau. Working from a dank cellar with the help of a lascivious dwarf, Claire—aided by Gruber’s telepathic powers—succeeds in reanimating a pauper’s mutilated corpse and sending it on a mission of revenge…but how will she control this doddering zombie should Gruber succumb to his weak heart? Devil’s Kiss was the first and only horror film directed by “Georges Gigo”—the French pseudonym of Spanish-born Jorge Luís Gigó Aznar, who can be seen as the fashion show announcer. A moody mélange of Frankenstein, Dracula, Lovecraft, and Munster cheese, it’s the sort of atmospheric, lecherous, ultimately insane witch’s brew that could only come from the cauldrons at Eurociné! – Tim Lucas

I love these atmospheric Euro thrillers from the '60s and '70s. The rich Gothic atmosphere, moody score, Foley'd sound effects, offbeat plots and quirky characters transport you from the daily hum-drum to a moody dreamworld where anything is possible.

"Devil's Kiss" is a great example - the film has all the intimacy one can only find in low budget movies, and older ones at that. The agonizingly tired "boy meets girl" plot-line is refreshingly absent. So are all the other hackney'd cliches.

The blu ray is gorgeous and very filmic. They have preserved the original aspect ratio and kept the sound and picture clean but true to original intent. Watch it on your big screen, it's just like being back at the drive-in.

Now all we need are some of the other classics on blu ray: Terror in the Crypt, Virgin of Nuremberg, The Blancheville Monster, Bloody Pit of Horror, Castle of the Living Dead, Blood Demon, The Mad Executioners, etc.

If I may borrow from Joe Bob Briggs, this movie is rated 6 boobs, one bush and 3 butts. Alas, as a horror movie it is decidedly mediocre and only proves that satan's mignons are pretty stupid.

This unusual , sexy and scary film haunted me for over a year after I caught up with it via Amazon Prime video . I finally broke down and bought a copy after reflecting back on Devil's Kiss subsequent to seeing and acquiring a couple of Rosalba Neri Italian horror films . Lady Frankenstein and The Devil's Wedding Night . I'm looking deeper into retro European horror films . If you enjoy(ed) the Neri film's like myself , I'd recommend you get a copy . Films for film collectors .

A seance , mad science experiments, and then murder in an elegant candle lit castle, adds up to a spooky good time.

A widow blames her husband's suicide upon a group of aristocrats who subsequently grabbed up all of his estate, leaving her destitute. She studies the arcane, pronounces her allegiance to the devil, and decides to create a Frankenstein monster in order to wreak vengeance. She funds her studies by performing seances under a new name until one of her intended victims hires her, recognizes her, and decides to finance her and provide her with facilities for her research into the arcane, in which he shares an interest. Most of this history is provided through narrative. The bulk of the film then deals with her eventually creating a monster (a tall, bald man who keeps one eye shut, is covered in white powder and has scars drawn on with mascara) while keeping her exact activities secret from her clueless benefactor. Except for a hillarious early 1970s fashion show sequence, and a little cheese here and there, this film is extremely dull and moves far more slowly than any of the old Hammer Frankenstein movies, while lacking their wit. It does have an evil dwarf (a guilty pleasure of mine), but he is completely wasted (he just hides in the basement until the villainess decides to kill him for no reason). As with most bad horror films, the police who investigate the various murders(when we finally get to them), as well as all those occupying the castle where this all takes place, fail to get a clue until the very end of the film.
Although I also consider Lady Frankenstein to be weaker than any of the Hammer Frankenstein films, it is a better female-lead Frankenstein-style-monster film than Devil's Kiss. In conclusion, this film is a renter, not a buyer. It may be worth noting the director never made a second horror film.

Not quite a total disaster but pretty close

Exotic...lurid...surrealist...disturbing , a real find in this genre for me, unique in it's twisted naivete looks like something a drunken Jean Cocteau( or more likely opiated) might have made working after mishandled brain surgery.Facial replacement and all around madness with a sublime yet transgressive dreamstate aesthetic, a beautifully photographed scary poetic vision ... a stand alone piece of art, intended so or no,.. I had no idea this existed. My favorite right now...more mind melting than the sometimes overheated Jodorovsky, no offence to his fans but I believe they would benefit from getting into this wacked cosmic horror flick...Dal Lazlo(noted crime art authority)

These older movies puts the mind in Hammer Films of Horror. I like these types of films due to the directors focus on the "watcher of the film". Good but not great. No spoilers here.
